Authorities began investigating the toddler’s death last Saturday after a 911 call was placed. When first responders arrived to the home, the sheriff’s office say the baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination conducted Sunday determined the toddler’s cause of death was an “acute subdural hemorrhage” of the brain and the manner of death was determined to be homicide, according to the sheriff’s office.

Tuesday, Phillips was taken into custody and jailed on a $200,000 bond.

An Autopsy reports Says Toddler Suffered Head Trauma, Bruising on Chest and Legs
The detective seized cell phones belonging to both Jessie Phillips, and Mihlfeld to do a forensic examination.

On Jessie Phillips's phone, police found a PDF filed downloaded Sept. 14 titled, "Head Injury in Infants, Children, and Adults: Triage, Assessment, Investigation, and Early Management." The 10-page document was downloaded around the time he said he put the boy to bed.

On Mihlfeld's phone police found photos of the male toddler days before his death. The photo showed a bruise on the left side of his forehead, but not the bruise found in the center of his forehead.
