Indiana mom, 29, arrested for leaving baby inside freezing car in dirty diapers | Daily Mail Online

An Indiana mother was arrested after officers discovered her infant daughter locked inside a freezing vehicle while she drank inside a bar on Sunday morning.
    upload_2019-1-3_9-22-41.jpeg
The 15-month-old daughter of Tiffany Helbling, 29, was found asleep in a car around 2am in front of O's Tap in Knox.
    upload_2019-1-3_9-23-21.jpeg
The car was not running and the temperature came in at a freezing 25 degrees, Knox Police Chief Harold Smith explained to WKVI.

Helbling was arrested for child neglect on the spot as Stark County EMS medics rushed to the scene to evaluate the infant.

'The baby's diaper was apparently soaked and no baby food, bottle or diapers were found in the diaper bag or vehicle,' Smith's report stated.

Helbling claimed that she was at the bar for only 20 minutes but other patrons said that she was there for an hour or two.

Video surveillance from the scene will be used in the investigation, Smith said.

The father told police that he had been trying to get in contact with the woman all day but she had been gone and avoiding his calls.

In addition to child neglect, the mother was also charged with criminal recklessness. She has been booked in the Starke County Jail.

I just can't understand why babies aren't more important. :( It's an epidemic. Their little lives mean nothing, and apparently many feel the babies are disrupting their lives. Whatever happened to realizing a baby needs you? A baby is dependent on you? And people becoming selfless when they have a baby and putting it as a priority? Where did we as a society go so wrong? Sad sad. Thankfully THIS baby survived, but so many deaths...

And one could only assume she planned to drive home with the baby in the car, after drinking at the bar. I'm glad LE and EMS intervened.

I was thinking the same thing scaredtopost!!!

I'm guessing that's where the "criminal recklessness" charge is coming from.

She shouldn't have gotten a second chance after she endangered her the first time! So she wasn't using a car seat AND was intoxicated. I have zero tolerance for that.

They will probably make Mom take some classes in parenting, send her to a few AA meetings, then they will give her the baby back. It is a vicious cycle. :(

I know this happens but I'm hoping with her history the courts will not allow her to be alone with this or any other child until she proves herself clean and responsible.

    What, no car seat?!

What was this child during in the car while alone? Just fumbling around, sort of falling here and there? At 15 months they aren’t too steady in balance or coordination.

    What goes on at home?
