Judge Sets Deadline For Woman To Produce Missing Newborn

An Indianapolis woman was given a deadline of noon Friday to hand over her missing newborn, or she will be held in contempt of court.

A judge's order came after a second day in which Tasha Miller, 19, refused to take the stand to elaborate on what happened to her baby.

There is something definitely wrong with her. "I did this, no I don't think I did that, but I think I did this."

Reading this thread just makes me want to scream!! But I won't because it will wake my dog up..... argh!!!

So what is this? A new trend of young women having babies, then doing as they see fit with the baby and just plead the 5th and live happily ever after?

I apologize, my rant is over. I hope baby Raina is found alive but I do not feel this will be a happy outcome..... JMO

Mother misses judge's deadline for explaining where her baby is
    Posted: May 21, 2010

A noon deadline passed today without the mother of a missing newborn complying with a judge's order to bring the child to court or to a child services office.

Tasha B. Miller, 19, is due at 4:30 p.m. in Marion County juvenile court to address whether she should be held in contempt of court -- and possibly jailed -- for failing to comply. The judge had issued the order earlier this week after Miller refused to testify about the baby girl's whereabouts, citing the risk of self-incrimination.

However, Miller could avoid contempt by showing that producing the child is an impossibility. One way to do that would be to swear under oath that the child has died; the juvenile court would then have to close the case because it has jurisdiction only over the welfare of the child, leaving police to continue investigating whether a crime has occurred.

Indianapolis mother, 19, arrested in missing newborn case

Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi isn't as optimistic.

"I don't want to speculate and do into the evidence in this case, it's incredibly troubling. Everybody wants to know where that baby is. Hopefully there's hope she's still alive, I don't think so."

Police will once again search a landfill in Clinton County on Monday where the trash from the Dumpster was taken to search for the child's body.

Sgt. Jackson said she and a group of 35-40 detectives and recruits from the police academy will suit up with special clothing, goggles and masks in hopes of finding any evidence of the child. By the time they return to the landfill, it will have been two weeks from the time the child was born, but Jackson says the landfill operators are helping make the search a little easier.

The most obvious place to look is in the landfill.
I am glad they are going back out there to do another search.

IMO> Even if they do not find the baby, I would think the supposed mom could be prosecuted, as she did say she put the baby 'somewhere.'

Landfill search planned for missing Ind. newborn
    Associated Press 12:34 p.m. CDT, May 22, 2010

Authorities plan to search a landfill for the body of a newborn or other evidence after an Indianapolis woman told social workers she may have killed her child and put the body in a trash bin.

An intensive search is planned for Monday at the landfill north of Frankfort.

Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi said he planned to file a felony neglect charge against the child's 19-year-old mother.

Dozens Tear Through Landfill In Missing Infant Search
Police Search Of Huge Trash Pile In Clinton County
    UPDATED: 10:13 am EDT May 24, 2010

"Approximately 46 recruits, assisted by several missing persons detectives and backed up by fire personnel, will start searching the landfill over about a six-hour period," said Indianapolis police Sgt. Paul Thompson.

Those who assist in searching for the child are wearing protective gear, including a mask, plastic suit, gloves and boots.

With temperatures expected to soar near 90 degrees, the search could be hazardous because of heat.

"We're going to rely on support crews that are there to make sure our officers can do this safely, and we're going to have protective suits to protect them from any type of contamination -- respirator-type devices so they don't ingest anything into their lungs," Thompson said.

The mound of debris is about 30 feet deep, Thompson said. Sections will be placed in a 10x12-foot square about a foot deep, after which the search crew will check for any sign of the child before moving on to another section.

God bless and protect these searchers. Please help LE find baby Raina.

This is about an hour away from where I live and the temps are suppose to be unseasonably high today. The sun is beating down right now.

Searchers looking for traces of a missing Indianapolis newborn had been expected to wrap up efforts for the day at a Clinton County landfill around 3 p.m., but Indianapolis police have decided to continue through 7 or 8 p.m.
So far, no evidence has been turned up in the area of the landfill believed to have come from Tasha Miller's neighborhood. But one searcher did find a piece of mail that came from the 600 block of East 11th Street, the same block where the baby's mother lives and where, she has said, she deposited the baby's body into a dumpster.
Sgt. Linda Jackson said a smaller crew might return on Tuesday, but that group won't include about 30 officer recruits who have labored today. At least one has suffered from heat exhaustion.
