Found Deceased IN - Karena McClerkin, 18, Kokomo, 11 Oct 2016 *arrest in 2022*

KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) — A 57-year-old Kokomo man was arrested Monday on a murder charge in connection to the disappearance of an 18-year-old woman missing since 2016, police say.
...
The Kokomo Police Department says its investigators, along with Indiana State Police and other resources, determined a timeline of events that happened around Oct. 11, 2016. They took their case to the Howard County Prosecutor’s Office, which led to an arrest warrant being issued for Flint Vincent Farmer. He was taken into custody early Monday afternoon in the 600 block of South Purdum Street, which is east of South Apperson Way and south of Wildcat Creek.

Kokomo police say additional arrests may be forthcoming.

Since Karena’s disappearance, Kokomo police have investigated numerous leads. For years, the case was cold until the fall of 2021 when police said investigators received new information on Karena’s disappearance. Working with Indiana State Police and other resources, investigators were able to determine the events that occurred on or about Oct. 11, 2019.

After presenting this information to the Howard County Prosecutor’s Office, a warrant was issued for Farmer on one count of murder.

YAY !!! Finally !!!
it sure took a long time, but glad they figured it out.

I am thinking of her grandma and family tonight as I am catching up.
Her grandma has been a huge advocate to solving this and finding out about her grandaughter.

Now....just tell them where she is so she can be put to rest.

Justice for Karena has been slow to arrive!

Karena was last seen at a home on S Washington. This suspect was 51yo when she was murdered. He was arrested about .08 miles or a 2 min drive or 16 min walk from that home.

Anticipating more arrests makes me wonder if there was a party happening at the S Washington residence that day. If others are involved, he won't go down alone. They rarely do.

A warrant for one count of Murder was served Monday when police arrested a suspect in the 2016 disappearance of Karena McClerkin, who was reported missing on October 11, 2016.

WRTV is not naming the suspect because he has not yet been formally charged by prosecutors.

Flint Farmer was arrested on July 18 on a charge of murder. He is being held in the Howard County Jail.

On October 13, 2016 the Kokomo Police Department began a missing persons case. The family of 18-year-old Karena McClerkin reported that she had been missing since October 11, 2016. The subsequent investigation revealed that Karena McClerkin was last seen at a residence in the 1000 block of South Washington, in Kokomo.

Investigators of the Kokomo Police Department have continually followed up on numerous leads throughout this investigation. In the fall of 2021, Investigators received additional information about the disappearance of Karena McClerkin. After receiving the additional information, the Kokomo Police Department worked with the Indiana State Police and other resources. As a result of the additional investigation, investigators were able to determine the events that occurred on or about October 11, 2016. The case was presented to the Howard County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

On July 18, 2022, a warrant was issued for 57-year-old Flint Vincent Farmer of Kokomo, for one count of Murder. At approximately 1:00 pm, Kokomo Police arrested Flint Farmer at a residence in the 600 block of South Purdum. Additional arrests may be forthcoming.

There are more details in this story from yesterday. He made a lot of calls from prison about the case. I'm always surprised that inmates either don't know or don't care that their personal calls are being recorded.

Multiple other witnesses told police McClerkin was at Farmer’s apartment on that fateful night as well. Some of the witnesses even reported hearing Farmer and a woman “wrestling” in a room in the apartment. Some reported the sounds of a woman “being hurt.”

McClerkin’s mother informed police on Oct. 17, 2016, that she had recorded a phone conversation with an individual who said that McClerkin had stolen approximately $600 from Farmer’s safe. Farmer and McClerkin were also alleged to be involved in Xanax deals, according to witnesses investigators spoke to.

he's been on their radar since this happened. Just took this long to make the case to bring charges. I wish that others who are in pain and suffering after the disappearance or death of loved ones would take some solace in knowing that cases like these are not cold and LE is working them. Life is forever changed for this family but they have some glimmer of justice now.

Gerry McClerkin, the grandmother, said that she was heartbroken upon learning about her granddaughter's death.
Karena McClerkin's remains were found in a rural part of Miami County in Indiana in July.

"My heart's gone. It's gone," she said. "It's going to stay until she's put to rest and it might stay a little bit longer after that."

"She'll never know her little brother. She's got a niece she'll never know and she's named after her," Gerry McClerkin said.
