MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – Authorities are searching for two convicted killers and a convicted rapist who escaped from the maximum-security Indiana State Prison.

Prison officials say the men went missing from the prison in Michigan City on Sunday morning. Spokesmen for the Indiana Department of Correction say it appears the three escaped by somehow getting past bars in the tunnels and pipe chases under the grounds of the prison, about 30 miles west of South Bend.

Authorities are concentrating their search in neighborhoods surrounding the prison.

I'm so glad they caught this guy. I live about 20 miles from Mich. City, IN, and it made me nervous having him out there "somewhere". I hope they find the third guy soon.

I'm quite surprised his parents haven't been charged with harboring a fugitive as of yet. IMO, the parents also probably helped him with transportation at some point, as the parents' house is 250 miles away from the prison. Thankfully, he is back behind bars where he belongs!

U.S. Marshal Dave Murtaugh said Battreal was being held on a federal arrest warrant but would likely be turned over to state authorities.

Murtaugh said Battreal's parents were not arrested and that it would be up to a local prosecutor to decide whether to file charges for harboring a fugitive. He declined to say how long Battreal had been at his parents' home.

I wonder how long he had been at his parent's house, and whether or not they helped him get there. I really hope that if it's found that they were helping him, charges will be filed against them.
