At least 28 passengers are dead and 25 are missing after two trains derailed running across a culvert on the Machak River about 160kms away from the city of Bhopal in Madyha Pradesh. The accident occured at 11.30pm last night but survivors say no help arrived until 3.30am. It is feared hundreds may be dead.
The Kamanayani Express and Janata Express were bound for Mumbai and Varanasi. They derailed a few minutes apart on a bridge near Harda Station. Initial reports suggest the Kamanayani derailed first and then the Janata ran into it.

"They did not inform us anything, later when we alighted the train, it was a fearful sight all the coaches after S-2 were not visible," Chowksey said. "People were screaming and struggling in dark," he said.
"A lot of people have been killed and injured but there was no first aid in the train. Not even in the AC coaches. It was only at 3.30 am when the train reached Harda that three four nurses and two doctors were made available there," he said.*
