IMO, they are lucky to get 1 sausage!
Taximom I agree with you. A friend of mine has a brother who is in prison for attempted murder and I get so sick of her telling me how he only gets a little blankey to cover himself at night and he gets cold and he barely gets enough to eat and wah wah wah...It just irritates me. I always bring up well but how do you think the guy feels that he robbed and beat with a baseball bat stuffed in a black trash bag in the trunk of his car and drove the car into the river feels?.... That shuts her up..lol
You know the law in Texas used to be 2 meals a day are mandatory but most jails did 3. I say give em bread and water.
I think they should implement the Maricopa Jail policies;
Sheriff Joe Arpaio is a colorful and controversial character who has instituted severe policies at Phonex's Maricopa County Jail since taking office in 1993.
According to his bio on the Maricopa County Web site, he enjoys being known as "America's toughest sheriff."
He got nationwide attention when he established the Maricopa County tent city for inmates.
More than 2,000 prisoners live without smoking, coffee, pornographic magazines, movies and unrestricted television in all jails.
The eRumor says the meals cost less than 40 cents but the cost figure is actually less than 20 cents.
Arpaio has also instituted what he calls "Hard Knocks High", the only accredited high school in an American jail.
That, along with an anti-drug program, says Arpaio, has resulted in a high percentage of his inmates leaving jail without their addictions and few of them returning.
We took away coffee, that saved $150,000 a year. Why do you need coffee in jail?" says Arpaio, patrolling the dusty, barren grounds. "Switched to bologna sandwiches, that saved half a million dollars a year."
Arpaio makes inmates pay for their meals, which some say are worse than those for the guard dogs. Canines eat $1.10 worth of food a day, the inmate 90 cents, the sheriff says. "I'm very proud of that too."
this must be a female prison. i thought male prisons had more sausage that they wanted.
I was tempted to say something similar but didn't have the nerve, lol.
I think we do coddle prisoners. Why do they need cable tv and recreation. It is punishment not a vacation. I'm all for giving them three squares instead of two but food they grow and raise. Let them get up off their cots every morning and work on a farm. Then sell some of the produce and cattle to pay for maintaining the jails and paying staff and they can eat and can the rest for winter. Let them have to go a winter on canned meats and then ask if the have any complaints about one piece of sausage. And the ones in wheelchairs can shuck corn and shell peas and milk cows. There is always a job for someone on a farm. And the guards need to shoot to kill if they run from the farm, one less problem for society.
Jeana...I've lived in AZ and i just love Joe Arpaio.....he should be an example to everyone across the country!! IMO
As I have said before, Sheriff Joe is my hero. Too bad we can't have something similar in OH, but the winters are too bad, I'm afraid. More's the pity.
I love Sheriff Joe too. Surely he's not the only one like that though, is he? If the program works well it should be required nationally!
The kids that get free lunches in schools don't even get sausage half the time. They get sugary cereals and cereal bars. I'd like to give those kids that one sausage the prisoners are still getting!
