I realize that there is a similar thread in the Cold Case section, but I thought that it would nice for us who have become involved in the search for Anna to let each other know who we are. Please post as much about yourself as you feel comfortable with.

My name is Doug. I am 47 years old and have married to my darling wife for three years now. I am a printing manager by day and a singer/entertainer by night. My nickname came about when a friend of mine dubbed me "Dr. Doogie, doctor of song" because of the wide spectrum of music that I perform.

I met Annasmom and her family in January 1974 (about one year after Anna disappeared). I had just moved with my family to Half Moon Bay and Annasbro was literally the first person I met at my new school - he was asked by the administrators to show me around the campus. I quickly became friends with Annasbro and his brother. I also met Annasmom and Joe Ford through the brothers. The two brothers, Joe and myself used to play touch-football in a local park and frequently went fishing together on the beaches there (Annasmom would often cook up our catch into a delicous ciopinnio - an Italian seafood stew).

I got involved in the search for Anna when I saw a show on TV about Sharon Marshall and wondered if Sharon might be Anna. Unfortunately, the internet was in its infancy at that time and further information wasn't available. I tucked that thought away for the next ten years, when I stumbled onto the Doe Network website and just started randomly looking at cases. The very first case I clicked at random was...Sharon Marshall!!!

Once I realized that I had found the same case, I started to do research into both Sharon and Anna to see if the could be the same person. Much to my surprise, others had already brought up Anna's name as a possible match. Once I had read Matt Birkbecks book on Sharon and found as many details as I could about Anna, I contacted Annasmom (we hadn't had any communication in about fifteen years) to see if she was aware of the SM case - she was not. We later determined that the two cases were not related, but by then it was too late - I was was involved for the duration!

When I asked Annasmom if she was okay with me looking into Anna's case, I made her a promise. I told her that I could not promise that we would find Anna, but I did promise that I wouldn't stop until we had left no stone unturned. And thanks to all of you, we are constantly finding new stones to look under. Each day, I believe we are getting closer to an answer.

My name is Maureen. I am 48 years old and live in the Greater Cincinnati area. I spend the majority of my waking hours searching for Anna, when I am not at work. I have opened an e-mail account reuniteanna@yahoo.com and I post messages on adoption boards. Most of my time is spent reading the internet. While searching for Anna, I have come across a possible match for Highsmith and awaiting DNA results to come back (certainly been longer than Delia's. lol). Just 2 weeks ago a woman contacted me that fit the description of Anna. When she said she was told her mother died in 1972 and that she did not think she was Anna. I had to dig further until I was satisfied she was not Anna. I found her birthmothers family and confirmed her story. She has been reunited with her birthmothers family. Anna and her family are always in thoughts. I believe in my heart someday Anna will be found.

My name is Mikie. I live on the coast in Northern California with my husband, a classical musician, and a cat. I have one son who lives in Washington State and another who lives in southern California, and I have five grandchildren. I retired last May as a college music teacher but still have a few private piano students and play piano, organ and harpsichord for "wakes and weddings and fancy balls," like MacNamara's Band. My first career was journalism, and I've done lots of free-lance writing this past year. I lived in Greece five years (both my boys were born there), speak Greek and have a strong connection with the country and culture. I have been doing volunteer work as a hospital Greek translator, which lets me practice and feel that I'm doing something constructive!

That is wonderful news! I hadn't heard that she had been reunited with her family. Great work, Maureen!

Hi! I am "laini" online and live in the midwest U.S. I have two kids. Hubby and I just celebrated our 10th. I am a R.N. in ICU and also do medical transcription at home. I mainly lurk and read online, but I am very intersted in missing people cases and jane/john does. I first learned about Anna Waters while reading about Sharon Marshall, after seeing Sharon's interesting page on Doenetwork and then looking for little girls missing in the 70's. Pictures of little Anna remind me of my daughter.

Just wanted to add that I really admire Annasmom, Dr. Doogie, and so many here. I believe we/you will have answers eventually. :)

As it turns out, Annasmom seems to have more pictures of me from the 1970's then my own parents. Unfortunately, most pictures from the 70's ought to burned so as to not show future generations how ridiculously we dressed. (Comedian Denis Leary once said about the 70's: "There we were in the middle of the sexual revolution wearing clothes that would absolutely guarranty that we wouldn't get laid.")

However, in an effort of full disclosure, here is one of those pictures:

Please contain your laughter. Can you tell that kung fu movies were popular at the time?

I'll be 60 in a few weeks and am retired from many years of working as a legal assistant in law firms. I'm also raising my 10-year old nephew whose parents both died by the time he was 6. He takes up a lot of my time because he's been diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder so has many behavioral problems. I also run a support group at his school for Grandparents Raising Grandkids (even though I'm officially an aunt!).

When he's at school, I spend way too much of my time online looking for Sharon and Anna. So far the best I've been able to do is to locate a missing child by the name of Rose Cole who now has a thread here on WS under Cold Cases. I'm in touch with her family and through the wonderful help of Jerry Nance at NCMEC, we're making progress on getting Rose on the various missing persons networks.

I so admire the many great researchers here at WS, and in particular the ones who work tirelessly to find the many missing children from the 60's and 70's whose families didn't have access to computers or the many missing person's organizations that are in place today. Sherlock, I can't even begin to tell you how impressed I am that you were able to reunite someone with their family. It must be so gratifying to know your efforts paid off in such a big way.

Actually, Doogie, I think it was Conan the Barbarian. I should have said in my previous post that one lifetime would never be enough to express my thanks to Doogie, my hero, and to you Websleuthers for you tireless efforts, your imagination, your brainpower, and your willingness to try to find Anna. It was hard for me to post at first, but we've been able to rule out so many things and you have beamed such wonderful energy to me that it isn't hard at all any more. And your faith is a wonder to behold.

Thank you Doogie and HoT. How much I wanted her to be Anna, and was hoping after finding her birthfamily, they tell me there were no other children. It didn't work out the way I was hoping. She is a wonderful person I got to know in such a short time and forever grateful. Her family as well, were very happy to be able to reconnect with her. Again, we move on...

    Hey everyone,

I'm Melanie... I'm 35 and from NE Ohio. I stumbled on Anna's case not too long ago and I hope that I can help find her, too.

As far as about me - I work at home...I do marketing, writing and pr work. Nearly everything I do is website / search engine related...I have two spoiled cats, Aurora and Venus. I lived in florida for a few years and miss the sunshine. Ohio weather is pretty gloomy most of the time. On the weekends, I work in a sports bar...

As you can see, I work a ton, but in my spare time I'm usualy just happy to relax (whatever that entails) and do something I enjoy (whatever that is for the day), hang out with friends, family, just the normal stuff, and of course look for clues to where anna could be. I love the sopranos, nip/tuck and tomorrow I am bleaching my dark hair platinum (inside joke related to my best friends wedding this weekend - the first time she got married i dyed it a farily bright shade of red which unfortuntealy did not match my purple dress very well) So, to follow tradition and keep it interesting I will be spending my summer seeing if blondes do, in fact, have more fun LOL

i've had a rough coupla weeks, so not been aorund as much as usual, but I'm still checking in a couple times a day...

If there is anything else you want to know, just ask :)

I don't know how I missed seeing the picture of you the first time I read this thread, but I've seen it now! LOL! And just how many of the 6 bottles of liquor in the background had you dipped into by the time you were boxing your invisible opponent????

I'm Janet and I'm 44 years old and live in No. California. I'm a single mother of 3 young adults and work full time as an IT tech for a State agency. I was very intrigued with Anna's case and have tried to keep up with it. I'm not that big of a help around here, but I do try to help when I can.

I do so admire Doogie for his tireless efforts on behalf of Anna and her family. He is a very special man and can see why he's Annasmom's hero! And the rest of you... if only I can grow up to be like all of you... you're all special!

I'm from SW Ohio, (SherlockJr I have a feeling we may be almost neighbors)retired and live alone. I have 3 Tiels, and enjoy reading, writing, the internet, and going places. I am a pretty quiet person, and enjoy people watching.
I'm not much of a researcher, but I am always amazed at the amount of information the people here are able to develop on people. Even on people from years ago before the internet, so much info can often be found. One of my first stops when I come to WS is to see what has developed about Anna. I think Anna is out there, and I think there is a good chance this one can be solved. And my hat is off to the talented researchers who have been able to dig that info up, and also to Anna's mom. I know the years have been hard. And I know that it is something you never forget. I know there have been a lot of broken hopes over the years, and you are still hanging in there, and searching, not giving up. That makes you a pretty awesome Mom.

I am a retired Police Officer. Born and raised in WV, moved to Florida for 20 years, retired and moved back to the beautiful WV mountains. We bought a beautiful old Victorian house that was built in 1918 and have been working on retoring it to it's original glory for the past 3 years. I discovered WS's while following the Jessica Lunsford case. I have met some wonderful people here and am impressed with their skills in research. I have found that each person has their specialty in different areas of research. When everyone puts their skills together the result is amazing. I really enjoy working with everyone here.

The collective talents that each person bring to WS is this community's strength. Some are good researchers, some are good at making connections that others might not see, some are are good at coming up with "crazy" ideas that turn out to be not-so-crazy. Together, the sum is greater than each individual part.

LOL, Dr. D. I prefer to call them 'out of the box' ideas- sounds a little better, and since that is my specialty...........

PS. Though I have to admit, Dr. D. has me beat on the 'out of the box' ideas- I seem to remember something about a toe?......ROFL!!!

Guilty as charged. I think I've been watching way too much Sopranos. I always ask myself, "WWPWD?" (What would Paulie Walnuts do?)
