"WASHINGTON - The wife of a former FBI agent, believed to have been kidnapped by the Iranian government, is pleading with President Barack Obama to help.

If she could speak to Mr. Obama: "I would ask him to please get Bob home," says Christine Levinson.

The Levinson family has posted a petition on its website Help Bob Levinson aimed at convincing the Obama Administration to "Make rescuing US Citizen Robert Levinson being held hostage in the Middle East since 2007 a top priority."

TEHRAN - Iran reiterated on Tuesday that it had no information about retired FBI agent Robert Levinson, who vanished nearly six years ago while on a trip to the Islamic republic.

WOW, I cannot believe that just browsing through the "Missing But Not Forgotten 2000's" thread tonight is the first time that I have heard of Robert Levinson.

This man needs to be brought home. I can only imagine what he has endured since 2007. It must be hell on earth for his family living each day knowing that he is alive and suffering, but unable to make contact with him.

I believe the greater number of people who know about this case, the better. More publicity about Mr. Levitow's hostage situation = more pressure on the international community.

This is a big deal. I would love to see President Obama make a statement in support of the Levitow family and the FBI's investigation.

Pretty big revelation here: http://www.buzzfeed.com/hunterschwarz/american-missing-in-iran-for-six-years-was-on-rogue-cia-miss

The U.S. government’s story that Robert Levinson, a former FBI agent who went missing after traveling to an Iranian resort in 2007 as a private citizen for personal business is false. According to an Associated Press report Thursday, Levinson was actually working for the CIA, gathering intelligence for the U.S. about Iran in an unapproved mission.

I'm not surprised. I always suspected he was actually working for the CIA. I'm somewhat surprised the AP chose to reveal it at this time, considering he is still alive. It seems like this could put him at further risk.

Friends and relatives of Robert Levinson, a retired FBI agent who disappeared in Iran more than six years ago, say they hope new disclosures that he was working for the CIA will lead to more action to get him home.

“Bob is a courageous man who has dedicated himself, including risking his own life, in service to the U.S. government,” Levinson’s family said in a statement provided to NBC News. “But the U.S. government has failed to make saving this good man’s life the priority it should be.”

Robert has dedicated his life to serving this country, and keeping us safe.

I know there is a lot of political disagreement in the US right now (& I hate to get into all that, ugh) but one thing I think individuals of any political affiliation can agree on is that this man deserves to be brought home to his family, after years of being a prisoner.

Awareness in the international community is key to applying the correct pressure. Bringing Robert home is a cause that I wish politicians from every political viewpoint would unite on and call for action. I think it would be a great idea for there to be a campaign of letter-writing to our senators. Has this already been done? With no pressure from citizens, I fear that there will be no action from our political leaders. No action from our leaders, and I fear Robert will never be brought home.

I've seen some of the recent news and unfortunately I think Robert is no longer living.

The FBI has launched a Facebook page in Farsi to solicit tips on the whereabouts of Robert Levinson, a former FBI agent who went missing in Iran nine years ago. Farsi is the predominant language of Iran.

The FBI has long had an English-language social media campaign aimed at encouraging tips and leads. The new Facebook page, as well as a missing-person poster and press release in Farsi issued last year, represents the most concerted effort so far to reach Iranians in their native language.

Additional pages are planned in the Arabic and Urdu languages.

Seeking Robert Levinson, the C.I.A. Consultant who vanished
In early March, a small group of private investigators, including two former F.B.I. agents, gathered for a meal at Old Tbilisi Garden, a restaurant in Greenwich Village that specializes in Georgian food.

It was a somber occasion. Two months earlier, the United States and Iran had exchanged prisoners, including several Americans held in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison. Another American, Robert A. Levinson, long missing in Iran and a friend of those present, was not part of the deal. Mr. Levinson, a former F.B.I. agent who became a private investigator, also had another life: as a
consultant for the C.I.A.

Much more at the link (IMO, definitely worth the read)
