Search continues for missing Texas State student
    Dec. 15, 2020

“Teams made up of local authorities as well as Equusearch focused on a remote area northeast of Luling. Much of it is around a large oil field that dates back to the 1920s

It’s a place where someone could easily get lost according to Felix Cortinas who has a deer lease nearby. "A lot of old wells, saltwater disposal, old wells that were never even capped or cemented just holes and a lot of creeks, a lot of steep banks," he said.“

Hope fading as search for missing Texas State student ends third day

However, hope started to fade when authorities turned their attention to a nearby pond where a sonar hit was made. As the water was drained the family braced for the answer they didn't want.

At last report, there was no information regarding what, if anything, had been found in the pond that was drained. With Jason Landry still missing authorities said the plan was to be back along Salt Flat Road Thursday to continue the search.

    To Note:
•it’s believed Jason made a wrong turn. A mistake that possibly happened at the intersection of U.S. 183 & Austin Street. That street is also Hwy 80 which is the route from San Marcos.
•It’s believed Jason was injured but able to walked away from the wreck site and then disappeared.
•The search Wednesday included teams on horseback. They worked through thick brush and once again across the vast oil field near the crash site.

Texas State University student still missing, search ongoing

Day four of the search began bright and early on Thursday morning.

Jason’s dad, Kent Landry, was on site as well, along with several other family members as crews continued their search.

“Some people have asked, could it be possible [Jason] could be hiding or scared, because he wrecked the car,” Kent said. “I can’t imagine that would be true.”

Southminster Presbytarian Church in Missouri City, TX, where Jason's father Kent is a pastor, has been providing updates on its Facebook page. This evening, one of the updates included the following:
    - Pumping the pond has taken longer than anticipated. Due to the size, it won't be fully pumped until sometime tomorrow, most likely later in the day. They think the initial thing they saw on sonar was a large grouping of turtles. However, 5 scent dogs all made their way to this pond. He said by tomorrow they will have a significant answer. Once it is pumped they have dogs that search for human remains. They will go through it with a fine-tooth comb.

    ......
Agencies like Texas Search and Rescue, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Highway Patrol, the Texas State Police Department and even locals have been looking for Jason.

“It’s thousands of acres, and today I’m searching as close to the roads as possible,” neighbor Stuart Carter said.

Sgt. Deon Cockrell with Texas DPS said they’re concentrating on particular areas in their search. "We’re still concentrating on areas like the creeks and the water,” Cockrell said. “But right now, we still haven’t found him.

Update from Kent at 3:00 pm:
    - The swamp is drained. From the best they can tell, Jason is not in there. They are bringing teams to thoroughly examine it, and are trying to figure out why the dogs all led to the pond. This is [IMG]GOOD NEWS [IMG] because that means there is hope he is still out there somewhere.
    - Tomorrow morning they are going to start the search again. They are bringing in 10 K-9 units, a plane, 40 people searching, and the teams on horses will continue. Their have been teams that have continued searching the area throughout this time. They will also take DNA from the car and gather any other evidence they can. This will then be turned into a nation-wide missing person case from the best we can understand. Others who do criminal investigation will be brought in to try to determine what happened and where he is.
    - The family is on the way back to the Houston area and should arrive this evening. Please remember to give the family their privacy and space if you are local.
    - Kent said that as long as there is breath in his lungs and air in his son's lungs, then there is still hope. His prayer is that Jason is home for Christmas. [IMG][IMG]

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." Hebrews 11:1

Police looking for a Texas State University student in Caldwell County

“The car got off the road and spun around, and the back driver-side trunk, bumper and the side of the car took most of the impact," Cockrell said Thursday.

Cockrell said emergency crews found some of Landry's personal items outside of the car at the scene of the crash, including a backpack that helped authorities identify him and contact his family. He said authorities currently do not believe anything was taken from Landry's vehicle.“

Search continues for missing Texas State student Jason Landry | khou.com

It has been exactly one week since anyone has heard from 21-year-old Texas State University student Jason Landry.

    To note from this article:
•his parents received a phone call at 2 a.m. on Monday from a state trooper.
•his car had been involved in a crash in a remote area in Luling off country backroads about 10 minutes from the city’s downtown area
•Texas Equusearch crews began searching for Landry last week.
•his phone was inside of the smashed car.
•Scent dogs led searchers to a pond not far from where the car crashed.
•The pond was drained, but there were no signs of Landry.
•Searchers say the area that his car was found is pitch dark when the sun goes down.
•Ken Landry (dad) said there is someone who knows what happened to his son and is pleading for anyone with information about to come forward.
•Texas Equusearch crews will continue their search of the area of the car wreck
•Search team members said several searchers will canvass everything within a two-mile radius of the crash.
•They will also be using a drone to fly over the site once again, then analyzing the video, looking for clues.
•Searchers said they are far from having a theory for what may have happened and say Landry's disappearance is still very much a mystery.
