Prosecutors are appealing to extend the six-year murder sentence handed to Oscar Pistorius last year.

South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal will hear the state's arguments on 3 November.

Pistorius, a Paralympic gold medallist, was jailed in 2016 for the murder of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The National Prosecuting Authority will claim the sentence was too short.

Roux was just as obnoxious this time around as all the others. The judges gave him a tough time.

O/T This film, which will air on TV in the United States on 11 November, is titled Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer.

The parents of Reeva Steenkamp, the model shot dead by Oscar Pistorius, expressed outrage Monday over an upcoming US film about how the Paralympic athlete gunned down their daughter.

The Pistorius family also want to sue.

There has been a bit of confusion over today's proceedings. Today was not the actual appeal but an application for leave to appeal.

"Prosecutors had two arguments to make to the court. First, they needed to apply for permission to appeal against Pistorius’s sentence. They were asked by the judges to also present their arguments for why, if their appeal is allowed, his sentence should be increased".

I’ve grabbed the best of Nick van der Leek’s tweets.

Justice Lamont: Why didn't he warn, get out or I'll shoot.

"Who would do that?" Justice Lamont refers to absurdity of burglar breaking in, slamming door and imprisoning himself.

Justice Meyer: But Mr Roux let's just stick to the point. Let's deal with remorse and regret. What's the explanation?

Meyer agitated: "Why impose a death sentence on who was in that cubicle?" That was Oscar's harsh sentence. Shouldn't he get harsh sentence?

Justice Fikile Mokogohloa weighs in for first time as Roux goes on about #OscarPistorius "anxiety disorder".The other Oscar was an Olympian.

Justice Ronnie Bosielo clips Barry's wing re: anxiety justification. "I think we've exhausted this. We've noted this."

Justice Meyer: "Isn't it true when it comes to serious crimes, retribution and deterrence come to the fore?"

Roux: He didn't mean to kill the person he killed. Meyer and Lamont pounce on this.

Roux just shot himself in foot: "How can he have remorse for killing intruder? Of course he doesn't have remorse."

Meyer adamant that #OscarPistorius not testifying during sentencing demonstrates no real remorse. I agree. Remember he was on ITv then.

Roux on #OscarPistorius' severe post traumatic stress disorder during sentencing hearing last year. Again, ptsd didnt prevent TV exclusive.

Holy cr*p. Now Barry citing all the warm fuzzy stuff not recorded in court transcript. What about the prism of facts Barry?

Roux reiterating the "tormented" and "broken man" narrative. #OscarPistorius Not so broke though that he can't afford you Mr. Roux.

Johnson brings back the able-bodied Oscar, the I-am-the-bullet-in-the-chamber Nike Oscar with strong coping skills. The other#OscarPistorius

By the same token, when there's dishonest accountability grief/remorse is fake and punishment should be even *more* severe. #OscarPistorius

I watched this movie on LIfetime, and it was SO BAD that is was almost funny! I don't understand how they got so many facts wrong???
Anyway, don't waste your time - I am miffed at myself for wasting 2 hours of my life!

I watched a trailer the other day where Reeva was putting together a photo collage as a present for Oscar. That did it for me as there actually was a photo collage given to Oscar - by his ex-girlfriend "Babyshoes," with whom he kept in contact throughout his relationship with Reeva.

Whether the writers didn't do their research or if they wrote the scene on purpose didn't matter to me; it just told me the movie was going to be a waste and I ended up passing on it. From your review it sounds like I made the right choice, so thanks!!

Pretoria - The nail biting over whether he will receive a harsher sentence should be soon over for Oscar Pistorius, as the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein is expected to deliver its judgment on the issue on Friday. [24 November]

https://www.iol.co.za/news/special-...-sca-to-hand-down-judgment-on-friday-12118709

Thanks, Tortoise, but is this judgement about giving the prosecution permission to appeal only? As I understood it, there are 2 different approaches : 1. Asking for the right to appeal, as happened on Nov. 3 and, 2. Making the appeal at some future date if permission is granted tomorrow. All a bit confusing!

I read it to mean they can do both tomorrow L2L.

If the SCA refused leave to appeal, it would be the end of the matter. If it did give the State the green light in this regard, it will pronounce on whether the appeal succeeded or not.
In the case of the five judges ruling in favour of the State, it has the discretion to either refer the matter back to Judge Masipa to yet again sentence Oscar afresh, or it can use its discretion and order a sentence which the SCA deemed fit.
