Mystery Disappearance of Local Girl Solved After 22 Years

The Jackson County cold case team has cracked another case, this one decades old, dealing with a missing 13-year-old girl. 22 years after 13-year-old Kelly Jean Harris was reported missing, it's now known for sure they'll she'll never be coming home. Two years after the case was re-opened, Leonard Vincent Hugall, Harris' stepfather at the time of her disappearance, confessed to her murder.

Henry Zavislak, Jackson Prosecutor: "The motive is clear, what we're seeing here is a serial sexual predator and murderer."
Hugall was a suspect from the beginning, and investigators say finally getting his confession took new blood evidence found 21 years after the crime in the Summit Township home where Harris was last seen.

Hugall is currently serving a 50-year sentence in Florida for rape, and since he'll be in prison there until he's well into his 90s, he'll likely never make it back to Michigan to be criminally charged...

Leonard Vincent Hugall did provide some information to investigators about where Kelly Harris' body is buried, but so far her remains have not been found.
