Police think someone came in through her bedroom window, after cutting the screen and tossing it aside. Beverly was wearing a green nightgown; asleep one minute, gone the next. It's been at least 35 years since the little girl was taken. One theory is Beverly died a long time ago, at the hands of someone who's never been brought to justice, but as of right now, no one knows for sure...

There were three, possibly four, people in the home at the time she vanished — all family members... Beverly's family never was suspected of any wrongdoing in the case...

Fingerprint lifting was attempted at the time of the abduction, but none were discovered. Damage to the bedroom window was noted, and to Odell's knowledge, no other physical evidence exists in the case, though he soon will attempt to sift through stored evidence from 1978 to confirm this.

This website provides pictures of the site where her home was.

Also:

Since that time, any talk among church members about what happened is in hushed tones. Some said that the mother, Bernia Mae Ward, had been involved in witchcraft at some point and wondered if that may have come into play. (She passed away in 2006. Screen shots have been added of the obituary that disappeared sometime in mid October 2012, after we linked to it. There is another mention of it here.) She attended Faith Tabernacle, but whether it started before or after the disappearance is unclear. Her husband, Carnell Ward, was not mentioned in any of the newspaper reports that I have seen and he died at some point before she did according to her obituary.

The street she went missing
Google Maps

Beverly was last seen at her single-story home in the 200 block of west 11th Street in Junction City, Kansas on July 4, 1978. A young friend was staying over on the night she disappeared and was sleeping in another bed in the same room. Apparently the friend was a 9 year old girl she befriended at church.

In the early morning hours, most of Beverly's family as well as her friend woke up and went to the front door to watch a disturbance across the street. They thought Beverly was with them, but once the commotion was over they realized she was gone.

The screen had been cut and removed from the bedroom window; it was lying about ten feet from the house. None of Beverly's clothes were missing and $12 she was saving for an upcoming trip to camp was left behind. Authorities believe someone removed her from her bedroom between 3:00 and 5:00 a.m.

None of Beverly's family members are considered suspects in her case, but little information is available regarding her apparent abduction.

More info

There were three, possibly four, people in the home at the time she vanished - all family members. Beverly’s family never was suspected of any wrongdoing in the case. Police think someone came in through her bedroom window, after cutting the screen and tossing it aside. Fingerprint lifting was attempted at the time of the abduction, but none were discovered. Damage to the bedroom window was noted.

Beverly was not, at any time, considered to be a runaway. Her bags were packed, and her money was left precisely where she’d placed it, in preparation for an upcoming summer camp she was planning to attend.

She was born and raised in Junction City. Her parents were married with five daughters and three sons.

Her mother Bernia Mae Ward, had been involved in witchcraft at some point and wondered if that may have come into play.

Could this have had something to do with her daughters dissapearence? They were also active in church and must have been well known in the community. I feel like the church or the mother may be connected to her abduction. Obviously the abductor knew where they lived and he was there for Beverly.

JCPD asks FBI to help investigate Beverly Ward kidnapping case from 1978
She and her family were living at 227 W. 11th St., in Junction City when this occurred. The house is no longer there, but the memory of the crime has lingered in the community.

[...]

Ward was wearing a green night gown when she disappeared and was believed to have been taken between 3 and 5 a.m.

She was planning on attending a summer camp that day.

Her bags were packed, and her money was right were she left it. Nothing else was taken.

Investigators had three possible suspects at the time. Two of them were of interest as a neighbor reported seeing a vehicle which belonged to one of the suspects near the residence around midnight.

However, the sighting was much earlier than the time Ward was believed to have been taken.

The third suspect was identified when the investigation turned its attention to people living in the area of Ward’s home. This particular suspect was seen in the area in the days, or weeks leading to the day Ward disappeared.

But there just wasn’t enough evidence indicating whether any of the suspects had been involved. No fingerprints were discovered.

Supposed to be a little older but she looks a lot like this Jane Doe:

Beverly Ann Ward – The Charley Project
Charley Project says In the early morning hours, most of Beverly's family as well as her friend woke up and went to the front door to watch a disturbance across the street. They thought Beverly was with them, but once the commotion was over they realized she was gone. But I have not read that anywhere else. No mention in news article from the time she went missing. I'm confused. I'm also not sure why her mother waited until 5pm to report her missing.

What a weird and creepy case. Junction city is a small town. I suspect she was stalked by someone who lived nearby.

Small town with a busy interstate highway -- I-70 -- and a major military installation -- Fort Riley.

Either could be a factor in Beverly's disappearance.

Late to this, but:
