Respectfully bolded by me, and with my wholehearted endorsement of this important question! Seems like her husband, at least, thought it would be hunky-dory for his sleep-deprived wife to make a multistate journey that would require her to be driving well into and through the night, and checking in and out of motels en route, during a pandemic, for the purpose of seeking treatment and seeing her sibling and their new child (apparently without quarantining for 14 days, as out-of-state visitors are required to do by a number of other states—I don’t know, offhand, if AL requires it but I would guess not). Seems like a risky proposition to me.

    Bingo.
I wonder who decided that she has mental health issues if she hasn’t been to a doctor to be diagnosed.
If there were concerns about seeking help in her area, was it her choice not to get help locally?
I’m always wary when missing mom is said to have issues with something but multiple people close to her saw no sign of a problem. What was causing her so much anxiety that she couldn’t sleep and had to drive through the the night to another state to seek help?

She was apparently seen in Mississippi at a gas station and someone gave her $10-$20 for gas before she drove away.

I wonder if those comments were made to her family in person, over the phone, texting or leaving a note.

    I've been following.

Why is this bringing back memories of Mary Winkler?
Was everything ok at home, and I don't mean from outside appearances?

I am very worried about Marilane.
Never would I feel comfortable with a loved one, who is in some sort of medical trouble, traveling alone that distance, and at night to boot. Just no.

I'm going to defend the husband just a bit if you'll allow me. ;) Some have stated they'd never have allowed their loved one to leave in that mental state, in the evening. We have no idea, he may have tried his level best to talk Marilane out of taking off at that hour! And in the end, she possibly insisted she'd be fine! A person can be slipping mentally; yet be very stubborn. Perhaps he offered to watch the kids so she could have a much-needed break. I'm quite sure he's beating himself up, let's not jump on a man when he's down. JMO and all that --

On Friday, video was released of Carter checking into the Quality Inn in West Plains, Missouri alone at 3:37 a.m. Sunday. She was wearing what appears to be a plain olive-green t-shirt, black leggings, black tennis shoes and dark-colored ball cap bearing a white logo.

Other video footage confirmed her checking out of the hotel alone at 6:08 a.m. and driving off in her 2011 dark gray GMC Acadia with Kansas license plate 194 LFY.

The last pinged GPS location of her cell phone was at 8:02 p.m. later that day near the Arkansas weigh station on Interstate 55 entering Memphis. A law enforcement air unit in Memphis flew for 1 ½ hours on a grid pattern covering a four-mile radius where her cell phone last pinged.

Multi-state search goes on for Samford grad missing since Saturday
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
خرائط ‪Google‬‏‏ says it's roughly 200 miles from the Quality Inn to the Arkansas weigh station, drive time would be 3.5 hours.

Marilane left the hotel at 6:08 AM, last phone ping entering Memphis was at 8:02 PM, that's fourteen hours. What did she do for 10.5 hours in between?

I agree with all of you who are asking why Marilane made this trip alone. I think there are many details being left out, which might make the story more plausible. As it stands now, it makes no sense. This sorta reminds me of Erin Valenti.

Marilane's Mom said she talked to her in the car while driving, what did she tell her?

That was a little confusing, as we know from the various articles she had credit cards. They say there has been no banking activity since Sunday. Maybe this was due to what is being called her confused state of mind. She thought she had no way to purchase gas? Wish we had more details from the person who interacted with her.

She left three young children. I wonder how long she planned to be gone.

Kansas woman who disappeared on her way to Alabama was going to see sister's newborn baby

"BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) — UPDATE: Late Friday afternoon, police released surveillance video showing Marilane Carter checking into a Missouri hotel early Sunday morning. She checked out about three hours later alone. A family member says investigators are looking into gaps in the timeline in Carter's travel path. Brother in law Brady Mclaughlin says the next focus may be a search of the river in Memphis."

"We are devastated because she has three children and they cry every night. They are asking for their mommy. Her husband loves her so much."

I noticed he died on Aug 1st, 2004, I wonder if this time of year is hard for her. He was from Millington, Tn. which is only about 2o miles north of Memphis.

I hate, hate, HATE to read about little children asking where their daddy or mommy is in missing persons cases. It is absolutely heartbreaking. It reminds me of the Diemel brothers case, where his little kids who were so close with him would ask every night “mommy, when is daddy coming home?” Ugh. They’re sheltered from what is happening, and for good reason. But all they know is daddy or mommy suddenly isn’t there. Just awful.

    Very concerning.
Please let her be found safe. Her poor family and children....

The family of 36 year old Marilane Carter lost contact with her Sunday night around 8 o'clock.
....her mother says Marilane's phone went dead in this area in west Memphis off Bridgeport road under the I-55 bridge at a walking trail.
Marlene Mesler (mother): "We don't have any record of her leaving this area. So this is the last known spot that we know she was ."

    also:
Her family says she told them on the trip that she was getting lost which they found puzzling.
Marlene Mesler: "She's driven the route several times so she knew the way."

My knee-jerk reaction was also, who let's their wife take off for such a long trip when she's clearly not in a good state of mind? But she may have convinced him she was fine to make the trip and would get it taken care of once she got there. Or she may have downplayed the severity of what she was going through. And her condition deteriorated as she traveled. The less than three hour hotel stay and asking for money for gas when she had credit cards and bank cards is very worrying.

Very scary, a vulnerable, attractive woman, traveling alone. I hope she is found and is able to get help.

I wonder if any of her family has thought of this. Perhaps she has gone to visit the grave of this fiancé. Especially if she is having a crisis of some kind. Hopefully she isn’t going to self harm. MOO.

Checking into the hotel for only a couple hrs could be indicative of her sleeping issues. Or a manic episode. My first thought too was who lets a person with mental health issues drive 12 hrs alone. But maybe she was downplaying it. I think a lot of parents have anxiety right now with back to school fears. Maybe that’s all it was (to hubby’s knowledge). Not like she needed to be admitted for a breakdown or addiction).

    I hope she’s ok.
