Does anyone know the source of her having mental issues?
Was it only the husband? Or did family members, friends or other people confirm that as well?

Did the family members she was going to visit know about her possibly seeking treatment?

Since this whole thing STILL doesn't pass the smell test to me, I've asked these same questions.

I truly hope that the investigating team seeks proof of the mental illness(es) her husband and brother in law say that she had.

I don’t really see those as being “hidden behind tall grass”. I know LE said they saw them and missed it but the hidden part had me wondering how she saw them.

Memphis news said the containers were seen several times but not searched. Also crop dusters were searching. They couldn't have missed them.

there does not need to be 'proof' of mental illness.....it doesn't always have proof to start with! plenty of people have asserted Marilane wasn't mentally well. source could be anything....depression,anxiety,perhaps undiagnosed post natal depression, or it could be plain stress.

Her mother heard it first hand on the phone as she struggled to stay on a road, find her way and continue her journey. Her odd behaviour was seen on cctv as she checked into a hotel for just 3 hours

her husband and brother in law had no hand in that so I think its a bit of a stretch to connect them to this

I think it's really strange LE did not search these containers. Or at least have a look around. Her vehicle could have been parked behind one of these containers.
Her body could be behind one of those containers if foul play was involved.

They didn't know what they were looking for. Marilane could have abandoned her car somewhere and try to hide or find shelter somewhere.

She could have been carjacked, murdered and her body could have been hidden somewhere. Etc.
Don't they always ask searchers/the public to look inside sheds etc. when someone is missing? Why didn't they do that?

It's like they had tunnel vision. Only looking for a woman and a car. And a woman that most likely harmed herself or had an accident.

Exactly! Memphis news said the containers were seen as searchers were in the field several times. A body that had been dead for two weeks would have an awful smell.

It also would surprise me if Marilane's body was sitting up enough for the uncle to see her from outside.

Something about this search stinks for sure. I'm a supporter of LE but this looks bad. I think it will take a suicide note in her handwriting with her fingerprints to convince me.

#breaking: NEW DETAILS: Authorities say the ignition in Carter’s car was turned to the ‘on’ position, which leads them to believe carbon monoxide poisoning. They say all evidence points to suicide.

Based on what her family said about her emotional and mental state, investigators believe Carter drove herself into the shipping container and left the engine running. Body believed to be her’s found in the driver’s seat.

Crazy where the containers were located. Two different pics of the same area. Not sure if is flooded because of rain or surround fields are flood crops (like rice).

According to MC's mother, her daughter was having difficulty sleeping. Sleep deprivation with a young family is difficult but I don't think her mom and sister and extended family would have encouraged her to come for the visit if she was having mental issues.

I'm very curious if she was taking Ambien...

Kansas woman who disappeared on her way to Alabama was going to see sister's newborn baby

Aug 7, 2020

A mother of three from Kansas was on her way to Birmingham to help with her sister's birth and seek therapy for a sleeping problem before she disappeared, according to her family.

This vibrant, 36 yr old wife and mother of 3 young children was traveling "home to Birmingham" to see her family-- celebrate the birth and delivery of her sister's new baby.

I can relate - I live in the PNW and for me, "home" will always be 1500 miles away where my mother lives.

MC's mother said she was having sleeping issues, and wanted to see her family doctor in Birmingham.

I think it's perfectly understandable that the Lead Pastor's wife did not want to seek treatment where her husband ministers. As if the Pastor's wife is not already a fishbowl!

I've traced the "mental health issues" statement to ABC News, and I'm mostly disappointed that it came from her husband.

It begs the question of whether the Pastor has ever been sleep deprived, carrying for 3 children full-time? And who doesn't *intervene when a wife with alledged "mental health issues" takes off on a 700-mile drive, alone?

"She was seeking some mental health care and she didn't want to go to any place in Kansas City, but she wanted to go to a place she was familiar with," Adam Carter, who works as a pastor in Kansas, told KMBC on Saturday.

Ok, so no note. But how did the car get there when the gate was locked? And how did she even find this container?

Who was Marilane Carter and what was her cause of death?

Agreed to the comments above, you mean LE couldn't find the car but her uncle did?

And how did she end up in Tennessee? Randomly in a farmer's field?

She did not end up in Tenn. She was found in West Memphis, ARKANSAS.

(I did it too)!

I see all these questions and comments about her mental state and so many people wanting proof. Yes, ideally she would have been found sooner in the search for her, but i don't find her actions to be questionable in any way. I, myself, struggle. And there is no 'proof', besides this post that I'm typing and what my husband can say about it. I can absolutely understand driving and feeling lost, even if it's a road I travel daily. The water, the hotel....none of it seems odd to me. Maybe she was praying at the hotel, asking God to save her from herself. Maybe she was showering, crying out in the shower one final time. Who knows. That's the thing with mental illness. It's sooooo often unseen by outsiders. We often mask it and mask it well, usually with a smile and a holy hug. Such a heartbreaking story.....

Thanks for sharing the photos. I noticed last night when I was using google maps, the area looked a tad different from a photo from someone else. Most likely, it’s due to river flooding which is common.

He did not “send” her...she chose a specific facility she had once worked at that was also near her her sister, who was having a baby...she was going to fly, but decided on the night before to drive. How was he supposed to stop her? If he had, people would be really be outraged that he had “controlled” her etc...

If her uncle got onto the property, apparently it was NOT locked?

Missing Kansas mom Marilane Carter's body likely found, as officials work to positively ID remains

Aug 19, 2020

A woman’s remains were found in West Memphis, Ark. inside the same car – a gray 2011 GMC Acadia – that Carter was last known to be driving, the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.

Carter’s uncle, who had come to Memphis to join in the search for his niece, was the one to first find the car around the area her cell phone last pinged, Chief Todd Grooms said at a press conference.

[..]

He came across three large shipping containers partially hidden by tall grass in a field. The door on one was opened, and the uncle found the vehicle inside. He then called the sheriff’s department, and deputies, Arkansas State Police and the FBI secured the scene. A woman's body was found in the driver's seat.

Thank you for the compassionate post. I have battled depression too, starting over 20 years ago. I know this thread is about Marilane, not about mental illness, but I would like to hear others’ thoughts as to why we mask our depression and anxiety.
Is it because we’re afraid of being a burden?

Body believed to be missing Kansas pastor's wife found in her car inside a shipping container | Daily Mail Online

Aug 18, 2020

After a frantic two-week search, her gray GMC SUV was found inside a shipping container in a remote field off Interstate 55.

Crittenden County Sheriff's Department Chief Todd Grooms told WREG that officers had searched that field before and seen several shipping containers, but did not think to look inside them.

'I just never would have dreamed that her vehicle would have been up inside one of them,' Grooms said.

On Tuesday morning, Carter's uncle, who stayed behind after a weekend search involving other family members, was driving and walking around the area where his niece's phone was last pinged when he came upon three shipping containers in the field.

He noticed that one of the containers was open and decided to take a look inside, discovering his niece's gray 2011 GMC Acadia with Kansas plates with a body inside.

The sheriff's chief said no foul play is suspected at this time in connection to the woman's death.

'I believe that anything that happened, happened by her own doing,' Chief Todd Grooms said.

The woman's decomposing body was taken to the state crime lab in Little Rock for an autopsy.
