Interesting that the 911 caller identifies him as being in a black SUV and not the vehicle they found!
This happens all the time. Police probably got descriptions of multiple different men, and multiple different vehicles. That would have added to what was already an incredibly confusing and fluid situation.

I was really hoping they'd get this guy before nightfall. I'm leaning toward he's no longer alive. It doesn't seem to me that he put much preparation into this given what we know. I have trouble imagining that he went from a domestic dispute and a gun/ammo purchase to a trip down the grocery aisles to prep for a stay in the wilderness. Could be wrong. MOO

'We want the citizens to call in on everything'

"We want the citizens to call in on everything," Pennington said Monday afternoon. "If you come home, and your doors don't seem like that's how you left it, back out and call somebody."

"If you hear your dogs barking late at night, call," he added.

I’m leaning towards suicide as well. Could he have had a scooter or some such way to leave the area? Did he choose this area because he knows it and could have hidden supplies?

"A manhunt continued on Tuesday for Joseph Couch, the Kentucky man suspected of opening fire on passing vehicles on Interstate 75 and injuring five people. Multiple counties in the area hunkered down and schools remained closed amid warnings from officials to keep watch for the suspect on the loose."

LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) - A man who did not want to be identified says he believes he saw Joseph Couch moments after multiple cars and trucks were shot into on Interstate 75 Saturday.

A $25,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to Couch’s arrest. $5,000 of that reward comes from Kentucky State Police, $10,000 of that reward comes from a private donor and the remaining $10,000 comes from the United Way of Laurel County, their Executive Director announced in a Facebook post Tuesday.

I know this is not important in the grand scheme of things, but providing four potential phone numbers to call (in the event of a sighting) is absurd. Pick one number and use that one! How about good ol' 911?!?! Like people want to stop and look up a number if they have a sighting to report.

Kentucky is EST? I hope I can catch the presser. I doubt the news here will break in for that.

Some of KY is CST & the rest is EST.

Edit to add: My in-laws live in Western Kentucky, and it’s central time there.

Interesting appraisal from CNN.

Not only the challenges faced by LE in trying to locate Couch, but also includes the difficulties and dangers Couch would be facing trying to evade LE in this environment. Bears, venomous snakes, sustenance etc.

Of course it’s great that LE has captured a Kentucky shooter.
I doubt that it’s JC because if so, I think that would be the headline...naming him rather than just saying “a shooter.”

Another guy with a gun taking potshots in Kentucky…if not JC, is it a copycat, or is it an accomplice of JC’s fulfilling some plan?

I’m sure the presser will answer these questions.
