Quintez Brown: Friends, family search for missing Louisville man | whas11.com

Quintez Brown was last seen at Algonquin Park June 19. Family members said he went missing after getting a haircut.

Brown, a well-known activist in the community, was set to be a senior at UofL this fall. During his time as an intern with The Courier-Journal, Brown wrote in the newspaper's opinion column about race relations in Louisville.

Some pictures show Brown with long hair and a beard, however friends and family said he recently cut both. He is 20 years old, listed at 6-foot-1 and 140 pounds. He may be driving a blue 2005 Nissan Sentra with Kentucky plates 827-ABK.

The article has been updated with a photo of his haircut but I'm not sure how to share it. He has such a nice smile.

He seems like a very level headed young man. Concerning that he was at a pool Saturday and possible sightings at Subway Sunday yet family can't get a hold of him now. Praying he is safe.

This is very worrying to me. What a smart and handsome young man.

I hope he hasn't been targeted because of his advocacy. I think tensions are a little high in Louisville right now.

Community searching for 20-year-old Louisville columnist, activist last seen Saturday

.....SBM

Witnesses say Brown drove his dark blue Nissan Sentra to the Algonquin Park pool. We spoke with Metro councilwoman Keisha Dorsey who said while the details are still unclear, security reportedly asked Brown to leave the pool, which he did, and he hasn't been heard from since.

Brown's whereabouts are unknown and relatives have filed a missing persons report with the Louisville Metro Police Department, officials confirmed.

"He's family-oriented, he communicates well with his family about his whereabouts, and this is just not normal," his grandmother Tanya Hyde said.

According to his family, another odd instance that occurred Saturday, was Brown cutting his dreads.

"When they told me he cut it, Saturday, I'm like okay what's going on here," Hyde said.

Brown is an op-ed columnist for the Courier-Journal in Louisville, according to his bio on their website. His topics include writing about race, youth opinion and social justice. He was also at the forefront of last year's protests that began in the wake of the Breonna Taylor shooting.

"I know what's going on in the world and I know how he feels about bringing people together and uniting people as one," Hyde said. "I've always had concerns about his mission because he's a young Black man."

According to his bio, Brown currently attends the University of Louisville, where he is studying psychology. He was previously an opinion editor for the Louisville Cardinal.

The Muhammad Ali Center tweeted that Brown was also one of its past members of the Council of Students, calling on the community to spread the word.

Family and friends of nearly 100 volunteers gathered for a search party Tuesday to help spread the word about Brown's disappearance, including handing out the flyers.

I was thinking maybe someone had done something to him, but it sounds like getting his hair cut was something the family would consider unusual. Maybe he's going through something. That makes me more hopeful that he might be ok, vs. someone else doing something to him.

cutting his dreads is a red flag, and why was he asked to leave the pool?

Quintez Brown Louisville: Louisville Urban League, family ask for help
Before he went missing, the family says Brown was in a confrontation with a security guard at the Algonquin Park Pool. Brown was frustrated with pool officials' handling of admissions to the pool, according to Reynolds, and the family said Thursday that Louisville Metro Police were called. An LMPD spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation of that call
SNIPPED FROM SAME ARTICLE:
Brown went to the Daugherty's home after leaving the pool, according to the family, and the Daughertys said he acted like his usual self while there. However, Reynolds said they are concerned he might be having a "mental health crisis."

"He is a young man who is like so many who are conscious of the challenges in our community, in our country. He's burdened by all of the things that are wrong, and he is someone who was fine and good," Stephanie Daugherty said. "So we need to make sure that we get that word out and that he is a priority person to us, and we want every resource available to be used to help find him."

So he was last seen at his parent's house then and he acted normal.

he is at the age when the onset of MI can rear its head.

Nothing new reported that I can see today. One of those threads that won't get much attention IMO.

I’m hoping this young man is just taking a break from reality for a little bit and will surface soon.

The article was updated on 6/26, I think this is a new sighting:

The family believes Brown was last seen at The Franciscan Kitchen shelter, 748 S. Preston St., on Tuesday according to Louisville Urban League President and CEO Sadiqa Reynolds, who hosted the virtual press conference.

Sounds like this very promising young man made be having a mental break. I hope the family can locate him and get him some help. I do wonder why he was asked to leave the pool.

I do wonder why he was asked to leave the pool.

In the first article it mentions this and JMO might have been a trigger:

"LMPD said Brown was last seen visiting Algonquin Pool at around 4:15 p.m. Saturday, where security asked him to leave for entering without paying admission.

"Quintez on Saturday seemed to become agitated at the pool when the kids were charged and the pool was closing," Reynolds said. "He had not the best interaction with the security guard there he took money out of his own pocket to give kids their money back."

Body camera footage shows Brown leaving the pool when asked. While he has not posted on social media, LMPD said he did withdraw money from his bank account".
