so, what are the thoughts on if there will be separate trials for each indictment or if they will try them both at the same time?

I think they'll try Pate's first. Say he's convicted of it, then they'll probably bargain with him for MS's location in exchange for life with the possibility of parole in 25 years. But he does have to plead guilty to both murders.

The aggravated kidnapping charge will probably be thrown out as it has no bearing if he's convicted of the murders of both.

"On the evening of Sept. 21, 1999, skeletal remains of a female were found in on Brigman Highway between the communities of Prudhomme and Pitreville, located in the northern part of Acadia Parish.

Discovered by the home’s renters about a month after moving in, Pate was identified through the work of Louisiana State University anthropologist Mary Mayheim and her team.

The renters, GL and a companion, stumbled upon the remains after deciding to explore the back yard that evening. There GL found three boards. He told police he moved the first board to investigate and found a human skull."

Somewhere in this stretch of Brigman I am guessing?

Personally, the only way I do that is if I have a weak case, otherwise the only thing on the table is life w/o parole. He can live, but its in prison. Maybe part of me would just like to think that BSL would buy into the idea that even a sentence of life w/o parole allows him to "control" when he dies instead of the State "controlling" when he dies. Maybe wishful thinking on my part but I think LE and the DA take a beating publicly if they agree to a plea that involves the possibility of parole in 25 years, even if he wouldn't get paroled. Another reason I would never offer parole is based on his last incarceration, apparently he was an ideal prisoner. He has shown he can put on a facade for his own self-preservation and do what it takes to get paroled. Lord forbid he did the same again and was released onto the public. Nope, don't think I would ever agree to the possibility of parole if I were the DA. Just my own opinion though and easy for me to armchair quarterback it.

the fact that Lisa Pate was last seen in June and said to have died on July 3rd really makes me wonder if he kept Mickey longer than just May 19th...

I have searched and searched for more info about these locations...:yourock:

...and thanks for packing this up for the trip to our new pad. :)

I don't think so based on the fact he went to New Orleans later the same day. I don't think he would have risked it.

"The other girl told, I'll make sure this one doesn't...and I got away with the other one.." mentality..

They'll most likely just bargain with taking death off the table in exchange for life (or two life sentences) if he pleads guilty to both and gives the location of the body.

I can't believe any kind of plea would involve eventual chance at parole, not with two murders (at the least.) LWOP has to be the only concession that can be made here, if at all. JMO

I think I remember correctly but with the DTL trial they decided to go with Charlotte Pace first because they had the most evidence for a conviction. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

Where? Petsmart?:D

:what:

Right in the puppy treat aisle.

I believe LE has said there were no human remains found in the truck, I'll look to see if I can find a link to that.

I think BSL burned the truck to get rid of forensic evidence inside the truck.

ETA: link to article:

http://www.theadvertiser.com/article/20120715/NEWS01/207150336/Craft-We-don-t-know-where-she-he-does

"Craft said police are still not sure whether Shunick was ever in Lavergne's mobile home, but crime scene investigators processed the scene "like she was." There was no body or human remains, nor a GPS, in the burned-out truck, but Craft said there very likely was evidence related to the case."

I keep thinking of the sheer amount of blood which would have been in that truck. As many probably know, you can get body fluids to fluoresce simply by shining a blacklight on an object. Here's a fun (or horrifying) exercise: Shine a blacklight on your toilet, turn off the regular bathroom light, and take a gander at what's there. It's disgusting, especially if males use the bathroom (admit it, some guys have bad aim). You'll probably spend the next two days scrubbing your bathroom with a combination of bleach, old toothbrushes and ammonia. If you're really brave, you'll turn that blacklight on the shower, too. You probably won't thank me for enlightening you to what you're going to see in there...And some of those glowing spots could have been there for weeks or months.

Anyways, I digress. The truck which he burned, which we know probably contained large quantities of his blood, could also have very well have contained blood/fluids from more than one victim. He would have probably used accelerants to make sure metal melted and plastic vaporized. He would have wanted all traces of fibers, hairs and microscopic skin castings obliterated.

The only problem with this is that, when BL came home, he would still have castings, strands of hair, fibers, fluids/blood and other items embedded in his clothing and on his person, and those could have in turn transferred to surfaces in the home. Thus, the meticulous search in the home by several agencies. Trace evidence is going to be what binds this case together, I think.

For those who are not easily grossed out, take that blacklight and put it on underwear you've worn previously and washed. Are you sure your washing machine is working properly?

You're welcome. ;-)

He may have wanted to, but considering if the wounds he had were from Mickey, then she appears not to let that happen....

Hello -

I haven't posted before, but I have been following since the beginning. I just found this on another website and thought that it might be of some help for those who were talking about putting a timeline of BSL's adult life together.

1997-1998: dropped out of high school between Junior & Senior year- Church Point High
April 1999: BSL earns GED and was serving in the Army at Fort Polk
April 12, 1999: BSL committed aggravated oral sexual battery
June 1999: Lisa Pate reported missing
September 17, 1999: BSL gets married to (name hidden)
September 21, 1999: Pate’s body found
December 24, 1999: 1st domestic abuse incident causing wife to seek medical care
January 18, 2000: BSL & wife no longer live together
February 2000: 2nd domestic abuse incident
February 9, 2000: BSL’s wife files for a protective order
February 25, 2000: BSL pleads guilty for aggravated oral sexual battery. Sentenced to 10 years
September 2000: BSL’s daughter is born
October 16, 2000: Divorce is finalized
August 9, 2008: BSL released from prison
February 10, 2010: Released from parole supervision
July 2010: Bought property & mobile home in St Landry parish (Bayou Ridge subdivision)
May 19, 2012: He allegedly abducts MS

BringMickeyHome :welcome: to websleuths

Seems like that's allot of years between Lisa and Mickey's abduction - would really be surprised it they are the only two. He looks like an serial killer.
