He is also charged with aggravated rape

Mom had told police weeks earlier that he beat her & she was afraid of him, but she went back anyway

Broussard claims Smith was beating her son. And Smith begins to talk about the abuse towards her and Julian, telling police the week he died Julian suffered two black eyes, a busted lip and a swollen head.

    Prosecutor will seek death penalty

I don't know, it seems like we have a generation of young adults who have zero empathy, compassion and heart.

It's just too sad and tragic that their children are paying the price for their parents having no sould

Same here. I've always thought that there would be a special place for child abusers, child molesters and people who abuse the elderly

March 27, 2013, going to grand jury:

    Seeking DP, 4/15/2013:

    http://www.katc.com/news/lafayette-...or-landon-broussard-in-julian-madera-s-death/

6/5/2013, boyfriend was indicted for aggravated rape of (I assume) the boy he's accused of murdering:

    http://www.katc.com/news/indictments-made-in-lafayette-parish/

    And this from 6/15/2013:

    http://www.katc.com/news/disturbing-new-details-in-case-of-3-year-olds-death/

They're still calling the mother and boyfriend the "accused" so I guess they haven't been tried yet. Also didn't find any info on if a trial date has been set and no articles seem to have a timeline of arrests, indictments, what all the charges are, etc.

He's served time for disturbing the peace, remaining after forbidden, that means not leaving somewhere when he was ordered out. He's also served time for simple criminal damage to property. Broussard also has pending charges including simple criminal damage to property, simple battery and principle to simple robbery & battery.
"A total of 9 arrest associated including the arrest yesterday associated with Landon Broussard in Lafayette Parish," said Lafayette Sheriff Kip Judice.
The most serious charge is now pending against Broussard. According to the arrest affidavit, deputies say 21-year-old Landon Broussard showed up at his grandmother's house carrying the badly bruised, naked body of the 3-year-old boy. After further investigation, police say the boy suffered severe blunt force trauma to the head, face and neck. He also had a split lip, part of one ear was torn and there were also apparent traumatic injuries to the boy's privates.

I'd like to go to this trial, but something tells me I would most likely end up in jail for attacking one of these monsters.
In the comments section (way down) someone mentions a "bloody face-print" on a wall

ETA I looked for a trial date, but couldn't find one

I read these articles all the time and while I feel outraged and sad about each and every one...this one made me break down in tears.

That little boy had one of the sweetest faces I've ever seen. So precious and innocent. With abuse that bad someone had to know besides the mother (grandmother?), someone had to hear the abuse going on. Yet no one did anything to help him.

This "mother" didn't have to go to class. She could go on welfare and food stamps and not bring this evil person into her home. Don't get me wrong I'm all for single moms going back to school to better their lives and their children's lives but not at the expense of their children. You only do it if you have a safe place for your children to stay. You do it online. There are ways to get a cheap laptop or computer. Grants and loans will pay for the books and classes.

I'm rambling I know. No amount of pain or suffering these two POS get will be enough justice for harming and taking the life of this little boy.

Oh my gosh, he raped that little boy too. :anguish: I'm so sorry, Julian. So sorry.

    Upcoming trial information:

A Lafayette man facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, in the death of his girlfriend's 3-year-old son will be tried on rape charges in September.

The date was set during a pre-trial hearing Thursday for Landon Broussard, 22, on a charge of aggravated rape of a person under the age of 13. Broussard is accused of sexually assaulting 3-year-old Julian Madera, the son of his girlfriend Laura Smith, in November 2012.

He is scheduled to be tried on the aggravated rape charge on Sept. 29, 2014.

His next court date, a pre-trial hearing on the first-degree murder charge in Madera's death, is scheduled for Sept. 23, 2014.

The "mom" pled guilty the week before her trial was to start. I don't believe she has been sentenced yet.

The Lafayette woman who failed to stop her boyfriend from beating her 3-year-old son for months before he died pleaded guilty Monday to cruelty in the death of Julian Madera.

Julian’s mother, Laura D. Smith, 24, pleaded guilty before 15th District Judge Glennon Everett to one count of cruelty to a juvenile. Jury selection in Smith’s trial was to start Monday.

Smith’s attorney, Randal McCann, said Everett ordered a presentencing report and would sentence Smith later this year.

According to Louisiana sentencing laws, the cruelty conviction carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison at hard labor. It’s possible Smith’s sentence will be less severe in exchange for her cooperation in the death-penalty prosecution of her former boyfriend, Landon Broussard.
