LA, Maggie Dunn, 17, Caroline Gill, 17, killed in police car chase, Dec 31, Baton Rouge

Summer of 1995, a deputy sheriff, responding to a home security alarm (false) t-boned a family member's vehicle. She died of her injuries soon after during surgery. Not a day passes when she's not mourned and missed.

My heart aches for the families and friends of these young, vibrant girls. Peace be with them. :(

He (the suspect the police were chasing) will be charged with two counts of manslaughter, as well as home invasion, theft of a vehicle and aggravated. flight, police said.
Maggie's brother was in the car too and in critical condition.
IMO
It seemed fast that the officer was arrested on the same day.
So much crime and police chases are so dangerous. It could happen day or night and the guy they were chasing ran the light too. Sad

But all police chases have one thing in common: It’s like playing Russian roulette with a 4,000-pound bullet fired down the street. Every chase can end in disaster, whether it is an innocent bystander killed, or a police officer, or the suspect. We don’t take those risks in other aspects of police work. Why do it with high-speed chases?

The Cincinnati Police Department implemented a new policy limiting police chases to “violent felony offenses,” the latest city to restrict the risky police tactic.

The Atlanta Police Department updated its policy last summer, similarly limiting police to pursuits in cases where violence is suspected. Chicago police are forbidden from chasing for traffic or theft offenses and required to balance the police action against the risk to the public. The policy in Volusia County, Florida, updated last January, states that apprehending a suspect is “never more important than the safety of innocent motorists or (deputies).”

While working in small time media I seen the awful results of a chase 6 times and it is just senseless for someone to run and senseless to give chase in many cases. They have scaled back the practice thankfully as way too many people have suffered from it. I’m sorry @Seattle1.

Will the offices face anything?

Reportedly, Officer David Cauthron has been charged with two counts of negligent homicide.

Eighteenth Judicial District Attorney Tony Clayton assailed Cauthron, who has been with the police force for less than a year after previously working for a sheriff’s office in the state.

“That cop has a lot of questions to answer pertaining to his speed and sheer negligence,” Clayton said Sunday, according to WBRZ. “The public can rest assured, we will follow the facts.”

Sources told the news outlet that the cop was driving about 86 mph during the chase of suspect Tyquel Zanders, who is accused of stealing a relative’s car.

Sources also told WBRZ that Cauthron did not apply the brakes before hitting the car the girls and Liam were in.
