It all started Friday morning, when officers with the Hammond Police Department were called to the RaceTrac on U.S. Route 190 near Interstate 55. Store employees said that a woman entered the store and offered to sell a 10-year-old girl. According to the HPD, the woman appeared to be Hispanic and pregnant and was selling the child after begging for gas money. She was accompanied by the girl and a man. Officers say that the adult female was wearing a red shirt and black skirt and appeared to be pregnant. The child is described as a female, approximately 10-years-old wearing a black shirt, black skirt and black leggings. Investigators say that the manager of the gas station managed to get the license plate number of the van.
