Rodney “Donnie” Bailey, Jr., has been formally charged by the Beauregard Parish District Attorney’s Office with several felonies allegedly committed on or about the day the child was reported missing...
Investigators have said they are awaiting additional forensic information while continuing to work leads in the case.
Bailey has an Aug. 2 preliminary hearing scheduled to determine if there is probable cause that he committee crimes he is charged with — possession of methamphetamine, illegal carrying of a .38 revolver, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal possession of a stolen car and use of a vehicle without the owner's consent.
It has been more than a year and there are finally new developments in the murder case of a two-year-old girl from Vernon Parish. News Channel 5 learned that the Vernon Parish Sheriffs Office received some of the lab results from the FBI from the autopsy of Willow Molina.
Rodney Donnie Bailey Jr., 34, was indicted on charges of obstruction of justice and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile. If hes convicted, Bailey could face up to 80 years in prison.
According to VPSO, Vanessa Renteria-Molina, 35, was charged with child desertion and possession of methamphetamine. She pleaded guilty to both charges.
Renteria-Molina was fined and sentenced to probation for the drug charge and received a deferred sentence for the child desertion charge.
In the 18 months since the disappearance both the mother, Vanessa Renteria-Molina, and Bailey have been charged with crimes, though neither has been charged with her death.
Mom pleaded guilty to possession of meth and got probation and a fine. She also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child desertion, with the sentence deferred.
Bailey, serving time on felony charges from a Beauregard Parish case, was supposed to go to trial this month on charges of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and obstruction of justice. Both charges carry a maximum sentence of 40 years each.
But, according to District Attorney Asa Skinner, that trial date has been continued. He said Bailey has changed lawyers and the new counsel has requested and been granted time to get up to speed on the case.
. . . Bailey pleaded guilty in Vernon Parish court on Tuesday to second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and obstruction of justice. He has not yet been sentenced.
As part of plea deal, the state agreed it would not habitualize him and Bailey waived his right to appeal.
According to the factual basis for the indictment presented at the plea hearing, alcohol, codeine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, and dyphanhydramine were found in Renteria-Molina’s system.
The indictment reads that Bailey gave her the alcohol and drugs while she had a head injury and did not seek appropriate medical treatment, “thereby causing serious bodily injury and neurological impairment to the child.”
After she died, he stuffed her body in a duffel bag, then dumped her body in Beauregard. . . .
I was pleased to see that Rodney Bailey plead guilty, but sadly only to 2nd degree cruelty to a juvenile and obstruction of justice according to the February 19, 2019 article:
Rodney Bailey Jr. pleads guilty in connection with death of Willow Molina
Note: Diphenhydramine is the correct spelling of one of the drugs in that poor child's system.
