"The remains do appear to be those of Mickey Shunick," Craft said at Tuesday night's Lafayette City-Parish Council meeting. "Her family has been notified. We have a lot more processing to do and some scientific identification to do, but we believe those remains are that of Mickey."

Evangeline Parish -- Authorities believe they have found the remains of Michaela “Mickey” Shunick of Lafayette near some grave sites off La. 10 near Mamou, Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft said Tuesday afternoon.

“The remains do appear to be those of Mickey Shunick,” Craft said.

Police Cpl. Paul Mouton said investigators found the body Tuesday morning after receiving “very credible” information about its location.

The body was buried near some grave sites in a small cemetery about 100 yards off La. 10, Mouton said, adding he was unsure whether it was a public cemetery or a private burial area.
Police left the scene at 8:30 p.m., Mouton said.

Check out the update titled "Mickey Shunick's Body Located 6PM".

The corporal describes the very specific info which LE received this morning, which described the exact location of the body. My thinking is if the info was that specific and exact, then the source must have been BSL (either via direct confession or via confidence in another person, who then revealed said info) or an accomplice of his.

But what threw me off was the line "a credible source". I sure wouldn't call BSL credible

Generally speaking, I'd agree. In the case of someone who might know where MS's body was buried, however, he might be the most credible source.

"KATC's Jim Hummel talks to Lafayette Police Cpl. Paul Mouton near the site in Evangeline Parish where a body was found in a grassy area near a cemetery between Mamou and Oakdale. Police say they were called out to the area earlier this morning on a credible tip. They say this is a different body from the deceased man who died of natural causes. They are not sure whether the body is that of a man or a woman."

Mouton said police followed a private road past a small cemetery of about 30 headstones and into a wooded area to the spot where the body was buried. The burial site is about 45 miles from where Shunick disappeared.

Looks like many more than 30 headstones in Beaver Creek.

She was not found in the cemetery proper. Her "grave site," as Cpl. Mouton referred to it was through the cemetery to an open area surrounded by trees. He apparently did not leave her in the brush..."grave site" to me, means buried.

Yes it does sound that way. I hope so, I would hate to think there is two of his kind out there.

Why would LE come out and say he acted alone? I haven't seen any reporters ask if he had an accomplice only me here that I've read. So why would they go out of their way to say that?

Mouton said authorities were directed to the body on a tip, but did not specify where the very detailed tip came from.

"We received credible information as far as where she could be located, off Route 10 in Evangeline Parish," the corporal said. "It was confirmed there was an area where a body was buried off the roadway and beyond a cemetery."
Mouton said police followed a private road past a small cemetery of about 30 headstones and into a wooded area to the spot where the body was buried. The burial site is about 45 miles from where Shunick disappeared.

Mouton said the body has been found, but not excavated because the area is being treated as a crime scene.

I'm sure that a lot of that time was spent with his attorneys. I doubt they kept him at the scene for that amount of time, of he indeed go there. Also, it would have taken them over an hour to get there and then an hour back.

3:30. that's puzzling. it doesn't seem like they would keep a serial killer out that long. the drive is not that long. as for sitting in the cop car while officers did their thing, that seems silly. you'd think that 2 of the officers would bring him back after he showed them her location??

Just my opinion of course, but I'm going to stand by my statement that LE would keep him out until they were positive they did not need him anymore. They would not just do a "drive by" of the area he told them about and take him back. It's a big deal to take him out of custody. They want to be SURE he's told them the right place and it takes time to locate & exhume the remains. As far as sitting in the car goes...it's the securest place to keep him while this transpires.

yes. you are right. that makes sense. i was thinking that the rest of LE and CSI would stay behind. but considering how careful they were while exhuming, that makes sense that they'd keep him there until certain they dug up the right area of ground.

I'm also thinking they wanted him to sweat it out, hoping he would volunteer more information.
