Longueuil police are seeking other possible victims of a 40-year-old Brossard resident who is accused of sexually assaulting young girls between the ages of 10 and 14.

Longueuil police spokesperson Const. Mélanie Mercille said the suspect appeared to be targeting his alleged victims at random, looking for children who were out walking alone.

"He sees a young girl walking and three times on four, the girls were alone," she told CBC News on Friday.

"Only one time, the girl was accompanied by another child."

Luis Walther Carrillo Hernandez was arrested on May 16. He will remain detained until he returns to court on May 31 for his bail hearing, Mercille said.

She said he faces charges of sexual assault and sexual interference for an alleged act that took place this winter."

On Feb. 28, at around 7:30 am, police allege the suspect committed sexual acts against a 10-year-old girl who was walking alone in Longueuil's St-Hubert borough.

The police investigation connected the man to similar acts against young girls aged 10 to 14 in Montreal — allegedly committing the acts from his grey Toyota Corolla.

"He has four other victims," Mercille said.

With a string of crimes suspected, the provincial police's serial crime investigation unit is now involved with the investigation.

Police describe Hernandez as a Hispanic man who speaks French with a Spanish accent. He is five feet seven inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. His hair and eyes are brown."

"Police are asking parents to talk to their children after a man was charged with sexually assaulting four girls because they believe other victims have yet to come forward."
Sexual assault suspect charged: Police urge parents to talk to children
"According to Longueuil police in each instance he approached girls aged 8 to 14 walking alone or in pairs, touching himself and then touching the bottom of a girl. In each case no adults were around.

"He did it in residential streets but also commercial streets, so it was a crime of opportunity I think," said Const. Melanie Marcille."

Police believe victims may not have thought it was important enough to tell their parents or authorities--but they would like that to change.

"We ask parents to look on our Facebook site and to look at the picture of the suspect and the description, and maybe their child will remember this man and remember that he touched [them]," said Const. Marcille.

She said that children should also walk in well-lit areas, try not to walk alone, and to be wary of strangers."
