"If I could make the world as pure and strange as what I see, / I'd put you in the mirror I put in front of me."

Oh man. Big death. Crushing blow. Requiescat in pace Louis.

I once, when I was a teenage desk clerk, had the sign outside the motel changed to read, "Welcome Lou Reed." (Well, he would have been very welcome!) Wow, I didn't think many in the little KS hometown knew who the heck he was. People were coming in off the street, "Lou Reed's going to be here??" etc. etc. Janitor guy who had to change the lettering, then take it down, was slightly miffed at me.

I just last week attended the documentary film- 20 Feet From Stardom. It featured archival footage and interviews with famous musicians and the successful back-up singers with equal talent. Merry Clayton was featured as was Lou and "Walk On The Wild Side" with Merry singing... "and the colored girls sing doot da doot doot. doot da doot doot!"

I recommend seeing this film. It was incredible, fun and interesting!

RIP Lou, you were a musical genius!

This powerful track is the reason one can say Lou spoke for so many of us:

Or these eleven minutes, the darkest of rock operas:

I am sure it will come out on DVD after wide release. You will just love the film! Merry attended the screening I was at, along with Morgan Neville the director, and the discussion after the film was interesting. Merry sang and it was absolutely moving and beautiful- what a voice.

Thanks to all posting the videos with Lou- so much fun to watch him do what he did best. I am so sad the liver transplant didn't take- what a tragedy.

I can't tell you how many days I sat at home listening to his music. I was a big fan back in the 70's of both his and the Velvet Underground. I have seen him, John Cale and Nico perform live, although not together unfortunately. To be honest I am kind of surprised at the fact that his passing is making the headlines as much as it has, not that he doesn't deserve it because he does, but because it always seems as though he was under appreciated in his life. Most people, when I talked about him, would say "Didn't he sing Walk on the Wild Side"? and not many seemed to have heard of the Velvet Underground. Just the other day I was looking at my vinyl collection and saw the many albums I have kept for over 30 years of both his solo work and with VU.
