    http://wbztv.com/local/child.pornography.arrest.2.1457865.html

"A Boston man accused of being a major distributor of child pornography pleaded not guilty Friday after police say they found more than 16,000 files in a shared folder on his computer.

George Shipps, 47, was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail after denying the charges of possession and dissemination of child pornography.

Assistant Attorney General Christopher Kelly said Shipps used peer-to-peer software to share child porn over the Internet."

I'm posting this as I hadn't seen this man's name on WS before. A world leader? I wonder if there's not even more to the story than is being reported? Is this appropriate bail for a man who obviously has extensive underworld ties?

I was just checking the other thread started a few days ago, "Large child porn bust" by RiverRat. I remember being appalled when I read about the scope of that case. I just checked the facts again and found this quote:

    http://www.winknews.com/news/top/82729657.html

"Guevara-Vilca was home Tuesday morning with his mother and younger brother when deputies arrested him. Detectives say he admitted to the 500 files of pictures and videos on one computer, but investigators say they expect to find at least 200 more files on two other computers taken."

Compare that with this newest bust:

".....police say they found more than 16,000 files in a shared folder on his computer.

I guess that puts this new bust in better perspective. That's a LOT of child porn. I wonder what the ripple effect will be on this one?

And read the possible sentencing guidelines. Is it just me or is this sounding really off? Also, note that they guy has five grown kids and the number of arrests he's had.

I found him on MS. Not too hard. He's in Boston. Fine looking guy. So what did he do to his babies when they were four years old? Oh, he had a drinking problem...maybe he doesn't remember.

    Where's Filly?

I saw the possible sentences too for the charges....WTH??!!! Five freaking years for possession of +16K CP images????

That is far beyond 'curious' or an accidental download - oopsie moment....makes me think he's part of the Wonderland club.

I hope this CP bust leads to more arrests!!

Here is a snip from an updated article about this guy:
Shipps’ criminal record includes 18 entries on his juvenile record and 55 entries on his adult record, Kelly said. Shipps spent time in jail in 1990 and 1994, he added. Among the charges on his adult record are assault and assault and battery on a police officer, Kelly said. Court records show he received psychiatric care for violence.

FWIW, The comments in the article were throw aways except the speculation on what Whitey Bulger would have done to him had the word spread when Whitey was around...

    http://www.bostonherald.com/news/regional/view.bg?articleid=1229285&format=comments&cnum=2

He confessed when police showed up, and he said he wouldnt know what he would do if the movies depicted his children being raped as toddlers by adults.

Well, I guess that says it all right there.

I dont know-if they find anykind of money trail, he will likely have some federal charges thrown in...it would be great if he could do his time in a federal prison rather than Walpole where I hear the SO's play cards with one another....

Believe--The number of priors and the juvenile arrests is what made me think that there must be some "underworld" or "organized" ties. I'll be shocked if this guy doesn't bail. Then, we'll never seen him again. 16,000 shared files means just that--shared.....with others....who don't want to be exposed. I can't imagine that huge amounts of cash weren't funneled through this man's accounts. Probably owes some taxes.....

Can anyone find out what sort of lifestyle this guy led. He was a hardware sales manager. I'm guessing that was just for cover. His MS page shows him on a dock. Wonder if he owns the boat.

He is not underworld in Southie-that I can assure you. There is not a single Boston-Irishman from the Southie crew who would take a piece of the action. The comments were correct on what would happen to this guy if it had been known by the Irish-Mafia what he was up to. I seriously, seriously doubt if either of the conventional mob influences around here would have put up with it. He would have been dead a while ago.

I do not know much about Eastern European mafia, so I suppose it is a possibility??

IIRC he was a shipyard worker prior to his management jobs-we had a huge shipyard in Ma just north of Hull in Quincy. I suspect his 5 children have stories to tell...and his wife if she is still around. If he has organized ties that were not through typical underworld, than I think he was part of the growing network of folks who are raising the stakes in the sex trafficking of babies and children...the community as I understand it has found each other in a way that has previously been unknown and almost impossible until the WWW.

No word on the wife...huh. Odd that Dr. Bradley's wife was long gone too. Never heard mention of a wife of Dr. David Livington in Tennessee. Wives of the pedo-twins? These women seem to get out but do they take and protect their children?

How can they live with themselves if they suspected?

    Right here, Iz.

It's not irony that a friend I am helping presently who endured horrific child sexual abuse was talking about the drinking problem of her abuser. Yep, mine did as well as did his grown son, and then the next son.

They don't remember. Ermmmmmmmmm, you abuse that many children and you can function electronically I'd say you surely recall.

He don't know what he'd do if he'd known someone did that to his kids? Gettahe*outtahere. I wouldn't have even asked him that question. I wouldn't ask him crap save for who is in on it with him. Then again he'll lie about that as well.

"Major distributor". This made me think of a case and I'll look it up here. I think the guy was named Ricky Muir? Steve Huff did a lot of research on that guy. I think he exceeded Shipps.

As for wives who "may have known" and how could they live with themselves? Lord only knows. Fear? Blinders? Thankfully we don't know those answers. Total denial? I don't get it. If I tried I'd become more bitter than I already am.

Oh, look besides exploiting innocent children in the most vile way possible George Shipps will give you tips on how to thaw all that ice accumulating this winter on your property. A little write up about him and ice thawing at the TruValu hardware where he worked.

George remembers as a kid his grandmom pouring Morton salt out on the ice. That's a quote. Oh, O.K. and what will these poor, poor children being violated remember years from now as adults, George?

    http://www.wbur.org/2009/02/04/ice-melt-a-hot-commodity-but-is-it-eco-friendly

Meanwhile, and this is not his own children's fault of course, but one daughter lists dad under her heroes. Not so strange, BUT she tells how he goes out of his way to keep his name UNTARNISHED! Odd. Poor woman also recently posted she is defined by her actions and hers alone. No doubt she's being bombarded right now about her own father being a major child porn dealer. That is sad.

His juvenile priors are not all that unusual for the folks around here who might have run with a tough crowd...think Matt Damon and Marky-Mark.

There are pockets of organized pedophiles here...he fits the age range of some of them. I hope, hope, hope that there are many folks shakin in their boots since he was pulled in. He was popped because of file sharing in a case in PA, so I am certain the roads are leading all over the place....the thing is that he will have no incentive to give anyone else up unless the time he is facing is MEANINGFUL. He has done stints in prison before. He has to be facing something very substantial and HARD TIME I would think in order for him to consider cracking regarding others....jmo as a lay person.

    B,

A bit O/T, but Mark Wahlburg didn't have a real good juvie record, right? Admittedly I'm a huge fan.

Not taking away from the seriousness of this crime. Just asking.

Forgive me for a very naive question. But won't the mere seizure of Shipps hard drives lead to others with whom he shared files? Does he actually have to talk? Won't his computer talk for him?

Believe and Filly--When I read about the Irish Mafia and others, I'm just floored. I might be the dumbest gal in the room, but I've never come across anything in Sonoma County (north of SF) or Southern Oregon that even smelled of Mafia. Never once heard mention by my friend who's a DA.

There's Mexican cartel danger out in the deep forest and medical marijuana "over-growing" but crime here is just "plain crime". People think it up all on their lonely.

Sadly, the small city north of us, Medford, is experiencing a growing gang problem with people coming up from California to sell coke and occasionally heroin but just no Mafia. It's so foreign to me. Just goes to show how regionally different the criminal element is.

No, we let little girls starve to death while DHS shines their computers and we look the other way at the tarted up 16 year olds hanging out at the casinos. That's all.

The seizure of his hard drive could produce info-unless he is password protected ala Duncan (The Groene case).

I would believe that there are protections that he has put into place that will prevent everything from unraveling once his hard drive was seized. Unless he is incredibly arrogant and believed he would never, ever be caught.

O/T We have a healthy respect for organized crime here in the NE. While there are certainly some headaches for LE (understatement of course) there are benefits. I have never once walked the streets of the North End of Boston at any time day or night and feared for my safety.

Matthew Broderick used to tell a story from when he filmed "The Freshman" with Marlon Brando-they were in Providence RI dining on Federal Hill (very, very Italian.) They were summoned into a private dining room to sit for a 6 hour dinner with none other than Jon Gotti and uh friends.

It was an offer they couldnt refuse, lol.
