Identified! MA - Granby, off Route 116, WhtFem 15-26, UP14969, shallow grave, clothes, gold ring, Nov'78 - Patricia Ann Tucker

I always wondered if she was from the Belchertown School. Patients used to wander off the grounds all the time. It would have been the route you would take if you followed Rte 202. It would explain the poor dental health and no one reporting a missing girl.

Wow. What a story. There must be some pretty compelling evidence that Grace and Gracie are deceased. Wonder if an MtDNA sample was taken from the surviving son.

Does anyone know who this post refers to, the Doe network link is broken. Who are Grace and Gracie? It's the first page of this thread where the link is quoted by this poster.

I searched women missing in NY, MA, and VT before 1979 and came across a few that surprisingly aren't yet ruleouts.

Rory Gene Kesinger
The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)
She seems to be quite a character!
The Girl Who Vanished: Rory Gene Kesinger
Ending up dumped off a road in the Holyoke Range doesn't seem too implausible, I'm afraid.

Sheryl Ann Tillinghast
The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)
Missing from Wassaic, NY on the CT border.
She wasn't reported missing until 1998!
Another young woman with long brown hair.
DNA is available so should be an easy ruleout?

A quick run through of the past 11 pages of posts, and I didn't see this list anywhere. For what it is worth, there are currently 50 exclusions listed for GG in NamUS. I am very curious what grounds they are being excluded on, but is reassuring to see an extensive list. Makes me feel like this is still being looked at (please don't correct me if I am wrong, let me live in this optimism for a bit ;) ).

It doesn't paste neatly, but this is the current list:

Bumping for Granby Girl. It's been a while, still no new rule outs. Thinking of her today.

Same 50 exclusions as this post in Jan 2020. Namus hasn’t been updated since 2019

She's included in this piece on twelve unsolved murders in MA: These 12 Mass. homicides remain unsolved to this day
On Nov. 15, 1978, loggers walking through the woods off Amherst Road in Granby found the decomposing body of a young woman hidden underneath a log.

A medical examiner determined that the body belonged to a young woman, around 19 to 27 years old, who was approximately 5 feet, 4 inches tall and had dirty blond hair. The woman was shot in the temple and had died anywhere from three months to a year before her discovery, the medical examiner said.

I'm originally from Granby and thought it was pretty weird not to have heard about this case. I'd love to see her get her name and identity back. I have a few guesses, but at least 2 of them are not on doe network. I've submitted Sheila Gail Pierce The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) to doe network as a potential match for GG and got the generic email they send but haven't heard anything from them in months. I also submitted a few other girls not on doe network that I thought could be good matches, again waiting for them just to be added so I can submit them as matches if nothing comes of Sheila.
Roxanne Marie Sims The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) and Christine May Gregg The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) (I know this one is a long shot but I think it's worth looking into)

The thing that always throws me is the tooth decay on the front teeth. My limited dental knowledge suggests a certain level of lack of care to have decay in the front. It makes me worry that she was potentially not well cared for as a child and less likely to have been reported missing by anyone. She may have been a very happy child who ran into hard times as a young adult and lost touch with her family, but I still worry she was a forgotten person even before her death.

Is there a picture of the ring somewhere? It's not listed at Doe Network. Namus lists it but doesn't provide an image. I should go back and look through the pages here. I've forgotten details. Trying to id a yellow metal ring with "illegible initials and is marked "14K" seems like a good use of crowdsourced sleuthing.

I was driving by there a few weeks back and thinking of her. I hate that she's been left for so long without a name. I agree CheddarMom, it's weird that she's so completely forgotten.

Sometimes front-tooth decay in a person from the 60s or 70s indicates somebody with a chewing gum or sugary-soda habit. Fluoridation and preventive dentistry also weren't as common.
And peoples' attitudes about dental care and how they value teeth have changed since the 70s, too. You can see the progression in my family, down through the generations: Dentures>partials>cavities>one cavity.
Dentition can be congenitally weird, all on its own, too. A friend's son's adult teeth grew in with cavities, and it wasn't due to neglect or poor diet.

Edit to add: not all of his teeth had cavities, only one or two.

You're both totally right. My oldest had bite problems that wore down his front teeth prematurely and my youngest had undeveloped enamel on her baby teeth. There are a whole host of possibilities, including the times. I appreciate the reminder.

She does haunt me a bit. I'm sad about all the unnamed and unclaimed girls and women found in in these lonely places, but sometimes it's worse when it's close to home.
