An adult walking along a path by the water at Fort Taber found the body of a baby wrapped in a blanket shortly before 1p.m. on Saturday, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.

The body of the infant was transported to the Massachusetts Medical Examiners Office, authorities said.

State and local authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

DNA testing led authorities to determine Baby Doe was a male and likely died about four to six weeks before he was discovered, the statement said.

As part of their investigation, detectives were reviewing several weeks' worth of surveillance footage from the surrounding area, and retrieved DNA from the scene to track down others who might be involved.

The retrieved DNA turned out to be a match to Escobar-Mejia, authorities allege.

It wasn't immediately clear if she has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on her behalf. She is expected back in court in September.
