This is a c/p from a Facebook post. This is the first I'm hearing of this information so sharing. His family wants this information shared!

Joseph Brancato was last seen on Mendelsohn St in Roslindale by his Marine recruiter on November 18th. He lived with and spent a lot of time from September through November with his recruiter at the recruiters home and recruiting office on Centre St. He vanished without a trace, leaving his personal items at the Marine Recruiter’s house. It’s against the Marines policy for a recruiter to allow someone that is being trained to stay in their home, yet this recruiter did just that. Joey contacted friends days before he went missing stating the recruiter had threatened him. This recruiter trained Joey for months and instead of helping us find him he asked for a lawyer. There is an active investigation within BPD. NCIS has also been involved as well.

Nearly 5 weeks since Joey Brancato went missing and we still have no answers. The last person to see Joey has lawyered up. Why? Why would a Marine Recruiter that is supposed to be helping turn his back and ask for an attorney? So many why’s and how’s, but no answers! Our family is broken, but we will not stop until we know what happened to
Joey. He is our son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend! We miss him beyond words.
Someone, somewhere knows something! We need as much attention on this case as possible. Please help!

I wonder if they were in some kind of relationship.

It sounds like they were in a relationship of some sort, either romantic or very friendly. Why did the recruiter "lawyer up" so quickly?

No matter the relationship or whether the recruiter was somehow involved in the disappearance, his actions are in direct disregard of the ethics standards in the Marine Military Personnel Procurement Manual (Vol 2) (short title MPPM ENLPROC if you wish to look it up.). Those areas are not just reuls to follow but orders "

"a. This order is a punitive order. Violations of this order are subject to disciplinary proceedings under the Uniform Code of Military Justice regardless of personal knowledge."

If he's engaged an attorney to deal with the military fallout for having a recruit live with him that is one thing, and would be expected given his actions but if he has engaged a civilian lawyer to deal with police dealings that's a serious red flag.

It is not a serious red flag to obtain a lawyer in any civilian case if you become a person of interest or a suspect and being drilled by police, especially if you are innocent. As a matter of fact it is recommended. A lot of innocent people went to jail by not obtaining a lawyer during their questioning phase if they were under suspect. Unfortunately some police departments are not always on the up and up and just looking to solve their case at expense of innocent people.

Understand I am not saying the recruiter is innocent or guilty here. I am just saying in general it should not be viewed as a red flag in any case. It's the right of an innocent person so they are not framed for something they did not do.

From December 29th: Marine recruiting office closed, sealed amid search for missing recruit

No authorities have linked the closure of the recruiting office to Brancato’s disappearance. Neighbors said the office has been shut down for about two weeks.

Brancato was living with his recruiter in a Roslindale home. Before that, he lived with his grandmother in Winthrop.

The young man has, according to statements made by his family, a history of drug use and public records show he was arrested last year with a warrant issued and served, apprehending him at home. Charges are unknown, as obtaining court records in MA is difficult. However, both items may preclude him being accepted by the Corp as they are normally disqualifying. Perhaps the recruiter failed to tell him this and that is why he left, but no contact with the family is troubling.

Is anyone searching for him? What's going on with this?

Jan 3rd

The recruiter’s name has not been publicly released, and before that, Brancato was living with his grandmother in nearby Winthrop, according to his family.

Sources*told WCVB*the Boston Police Department’s homicide unit is monitoring the case, even though police are calling it a missing person one.

The recruiter has not been named as a person of interest in the case.

I've known this recruiter for almost 20 years. We met, when he was attached to my Army unit from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Since I've met him, he's served multiple combat tours, in Iraq and Afghanistan. He came home from Iraq with a humerus that was shattered in 13 places. I don't know anyone with more honor than him. He became a recruiter because he believes in the Corps and wanted to recruit people to serve and carry on its traditions.

The one thing you won't hear from Joseph Brancato's family is that the reason his recruiter put him in the basement of his duplex is because NONE of his family would let him stay with them. The reason? His cousin Janice on the news said, "He had a drug problem in the past". That drug problem involved getting arrested. I've never known a junkie to kick the habit on their own, and if he had kicked the habit, then his family should have had no problems putting him up, until he shipped out to boot camp. My guess is he's still a junkie and his family wanted nothing to do with him.

When my friend went to his command and asked them what they could do to help this kid out with a place to stay, their reply was, and I quote verbatim, "Figure it out, because he WILL be ready and he WILL ship on time". Was he an idiot for putting him in the duplex where he lives? Yeah, he was, but he wasn't thinking about a stupid fraternization regulation, he did what his command told him to do and what he thought was best. In his mind, putting him in the basement on the other side of the duplex was skirting the reg but not breaking it. I personally would have contacted a National Guard unit and seen if they could put him up in an armory, until he shipped out....it's what my recruiter did for me, as I was homeless for four months, before I shipped out to boot camp.

For the record, my friend did NOT lawyer up, because he hasn't been charged with anything, not on the civilian side nor the military side. Every story has two sides, but he won't speak up, because he believes in Semper Fidelis and feels that speaking up will screw over his command. I was Army, so I could give two craps about his command, which is trying to throw him under the bus. The fact is the Boston Marine Corps Recruiting Command failed, when they took ZERO action to help find this kid a place to stay and put it all on the shoulders of my friend.

My opinion on Brancato's disappearance is that he probably got cold feet and took off, which makes him a deserter, or that he OD'd somewhere.

All I know is a great Marine is going to take the fall for something that is total BS.

Hi SkySoldier - Welcome and Thank you for more info. A BIG help to the recruiter and to us could be your submittal as a verified insider. There is a form on the website that you fill out and email to the address on the instructions. After accepted, only takes a day or so, you can say anything about the case you like. The rest of us have rules of engagement.

Let me know if I can be of assistance.

It has been 2 months since his disappearance. We are very familiar on this site with 1000s of cases concerning mentally ill and drug addiction. LE faces that battle every day. If either issue is present in this case, I have confidence that they will do more searching before pointing fingers. Unfortunately the media is another story. They readily jump to conclusions. Clearly there are two sides to every story and time gives credibility to a single version of the truth.

Yes...he was specifically arrested in June 2016. See dispatch log for Winthrop Police.
