Skeletal remains were found on the Newbury side of the beach of Plum Island, Massachusetts. A man was walking along the beach with his dog when the dog found a lower leg bone with a foot attached, still wearing a sock.

Cadaver dogs searched a 3-mile radius around where the remains were found, and they uncovered more (unspecified) bones. LE is still monitoring the beach in case more bones was up.

Other than that, there really isn't anything to go on yet. They don't even know whether the remains are male or female.

    From the article: http://www.wcvb.com/news/bones-found-washed-up-on-shore-in-newbury/30227622

Barrett said while it was hard to tell, it appeared to him the remains were from an adult male.

"Could have been a man or a woman, but the sock was big enough that it looked like a guy," Barrett said.

Investigators expect processing of the remains to take several days.

Many locals are speculating that it might be the remains of Richard Decker, who was missing and presumed drowned in the immediate vicinity two years ago: http://www.newburyportnews.com/news...876-af37-5bd6-ab20-ae9a12fb670e.html?mode=jqm

There were other remains found in Newburyport last year that were thought to be Decker's (http://www.apnewsarchive.com/2013/M...ng_sailor/id-3c59d63c427947c4802c904bcd52bb25) but I can't find that a positive identification was ever made.

Decker's case is not listed in any missing persons databases because he's presumed drowned and not considered missing. Though he's kind of a mystery in the first place; apparently little or nothing is known about him before he moved to Newburyport.

That's a different Plum Island in NY. This one is in MA. Not scary as far as I know. It's a nice area with vacation rentals and boaters.

If Coellner's body has never been recovered, I wonder whose leg this article from 2009 speaks of…

I can't seem to find any resolution to its finding online.

If they only found the one bone then, it's entirely possible that these incomplete remains represent more of Coellner's body washing up on shore.

    He's in NamUs now: https://identifyus.org/en/cases/13315

He was a man between 27 and 66 years old, about 5'7 in height, had black socks on and had been dead for about 6 months. Race, hair color, eye color etc. are all unknown.
