A similar attack shook the West African country in August, when a suspected jihadist gunman killed 13 people – five of them UN employees – during a hostage siege in the central Malian town of Sevare.

Ok, I guess this could be a continuaation of Paris.
No coneections at this time confimred- gut historically

Big diplomatic smummit there last week?

Lots of French stuff here:

World’s deadliest jihadists are not in Iraq or Syria — they’re in Mali

oh brother, appernetly a signigant French angle here

French forces won back the territory from al-Qaeda in early 2013 with more than 4500 soldiers in the region, according to Foreign Policy.
But now that France has withdrawn most of its troops, Mali has become the deadliest place on the planet.

Radisson hotel in Mali attacked; 170 hostages taken

BAMAKO, Mali (AP) — The company that runs the Radisson Blu Hotel in Mali's capital says assailants have taken 170 hostages in a brazen assault involving grenades.

The Brussels-based Rezidor Hotel group said the assailants had "locked in" 140 guests and 30 employees.

Malian army commander Modibo Nama Traore said 10 gunmen stormed the hotel Friday morning shouting "Allahu Akbar" or "God is great" in Arabic before firing on the guards and taking hostages.

The U.S. and French embassies asked their citizens to take shelter where they are in Bamako

Well maybe the only one good ting out of this mess in Paris is that they are making quite a few enemies!

Do not jump to conclusions on links to Paris.

Unconfirmed: The two women released were forced to recite verses of the Koran before being released

From a local expat on the phone, so far has had no information on air in Mali about the attack.

Mali: 100 meters, just a few minutes ago

many nationalities

Blue hat, not mandate, just assisting the Mali forces, and they were walking out one more freed hostage and as he spoke

Two drove up in a black 4 X 4 Toyota with Dip plates still there with the doors open, over powered the guards

16 hostages freed

3 people have died

Canadian stayed in his room until freed by security forces

more details later

Paris:

A high level target, there's a big Chineses business presence in Bamako at this hotel, and airline staff stay there

UN staff there, but fortunately UN forces were able to pull them out.

Level of alert had been raised.

They just interviewed a person on CNN over the phone. He said they are bringing the hostages up to the roof.

One saving grace is the ready assistance from all the special forces who were swift to act and many of the injured are already evacuated.

Here's hoping this attack will not be so deadly and they can get the rest out.
