Good morning all
So all those who have been following this Mali disaster - is this Al Qaeda , as opposed to ISIS?
Good question and going from memory had links to Al-Qaeda 2 yr's ago or so. They were a smaller group at the time but quite a distance from Paris and closer to Nigeria and Boko Harem which at one point announced affiliation with isis but was separate from Boko Harem.
Seems to me these groups compete against one another for top dog of the horror shows and it won't surprise me if we don't get a city or school kidnapped by Boko Harem who likes kidnapping girls and tycoons. (There's money in kidnapping execs and holding them ransom.)
Some info on this group currently.
The identity of the Bamako gunmen, or the group to which they belong, is not known.
Northern Mali was occupied by Islamist fighters, some with links to al Qaeda, for most of 2012. They were driven out by a French-led military operation, but sporadic violence has continued in Mali's central belt on the southern reaches of the Sahara, and in Bamako.
