TORONTO -- A motorist died Saturday afternoon after a deer struck by another car became airborne and slammed into his vehicle in the town of Caledon, police said.

"It's extremely rare" for someone to be killed in a collision involving a deer, OPP Const. Peter Leon said.

The 52-year-old man was pronounced dead after the crash on Mississauga Rd., just north of Mill St.

Leon said a northbound driver -- who was unhurt -- hit the deer and it was thrown into the path of the southbound vehicle.

    The deer was killed.

The identity of the victim was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The road was closed for several hours for the police investigation.

Witnesses are asked to contact the Caledon detachment at 905-584-2241.

Hmm, this might be rare in Canada, but I think it happens every other week in the Western United States. That's why we have warning road signs and turn our car lights on even in the day, and especially at dusk.

Sad story though. How freaky to have a deer come flying at you.

It is not rare in Canada to hit a deer but it is rare when someone else hits it and it goes through the windshield of someone elses car and kills them.

We have warning signs and it is the law here to have your headlights on at all times.

Thanks for that info - It thought it seemed strange that deer hitting cars or vice versa would be rare in Canada. Guess the writer for this article wasn't aware of that fact. The deer bounced off the 1st car, did not go through that 1st cars windshield, but bounced off and then into the path of the 2nd car. The article doesn't state any about windshields actually, it's kind of unclear how it actually happened.
