Just found out from email via Indianapolis - my friend Chris is working there this week - that his and his wife's house in Edmond was spared, but that Irene couldn't get home due to many roadblocks. Not sure on damages to city yet.

No activity here in the corner of NE OK (yet). OKC - Norman area is getting pounded, reports of several tornados on ground.

Tornado warning in Stillwater (Oklahoma State University).

Golfball-sized hail and sirens sounding in Norman (University of Oklahoma).

Here's the silliest question I've heard in ages, from that weather questions/answers chat I linked above:

    Comment From *****
THANKS AGAIN NICK. WHERE CAN WE GO TO ACTUALLY SEE TORNADOS ON GROUND AND MOVING DO YOU KNOW????

This person must think there's a tornado zoo or something, or that they aren't dangerous if kept at a distance!

West OK is in the clear now, but East part of the state needs to hunker down! Per MSNBC coverage.

    Praying for you guys!

This has been a bad week in that area. I have more family members there, in Edmond, Stillwater and Norman, so it will be another restless evening.

4 of my 8 uncles are in construction, they now install storm shelters in their new builds and also add to retro fit older houses. http://www.gohausner.com/

Given the storm paths through this area, it might be a good idea to build these on larger scale for communities.

As for the guy wanting to know where to go to 'see' a tornado; those of us who have lived in these parts of the country know that it is a thrill to watch, to a certain point, but then you have to take cover. If you are that curious go buy/rent the movie Twister; it was partially shot in Wakita, OK.
