MD MD - Tyson Barnette, 26, Cheverly, 23 Nov 2013

I doubt there were any cameras in that area. That area is not very good, I would have to theorize that he ran across some punk kids with guns, maybe got into something verbal.

Back in the 90's-early 00's when the DC murder rate was high, a lot of people moved into safer Prince George's County, now it is more dangerous there than DC. I would struggle to find a more dangerous suburban county in the US.

Investigations are ongoing in the murder of a mailman who was working his route late at night. Neighbors are astounded that the USPS lets its workers deliver mail so late. Two other mail carriers have been murdered since 2010.

Union Leaders Demand Policy Change After On-Duty Murder Of Md. Postal Worker

LANDOVER, Md. (WJZ)— Prince George’s County Police are on the hunt for the person who shot and killed a mailman as he was making his last few deliveries. Now union leaders are asking for the district manager to step down......

Lerch is the union representative for the National Association of Letter Carriers. He says the amount of letter carriers in the capital region has decreased by 1,400, and he’s been persistent in telling district leaders to change the workload or change the hours.

“The vast majority of letter carriers carry at night every night. That’s totally unacceptable,” Lerch said........more......

This is really sad. Not that familiar with that specific neighborhood but it must not be one of the more dangerous ones, no bars on the windows there. I wonder if the late deliveries have to do with holiday package/mail. jmo idk

From what I've been reading and what neighbors and the union rep said, this has been regular to work late for a while due to staff shortage. It may be heavier due to the holidays.

I know our UPS man comes late at night, sometimes 8pm, so it is not just the post office.

My UPS guy comes as late as 9:00. Course the difference is the UPS folks show up in huge brown UPS trucks with lots of lights so it is obvious who they are.

So sad. A young man with a good work ethic is gunned down. Probably by someone who never did a days work in their life. Do the postal employees carry money? was anything taken? Or was this just another senseless hit by some gang banger for notoriety ?

Very little information has been released on this crime. I wonder what happened to the carrier who used to own this route, that would be my first conversation.

A year after a mailman was murdered in Maryland police and the United States Postal Service inspectors returned to the community to pass out flyers in hopes of getting information on a possible suspect...

The crime is still unsolved, and a year later, some neighbors say they remember it well.

"I've been living here in Cheverly 32-years and this is the first time that someone has been killed in our neighborhood, and it was very frightening," Robin McClain, an area resident, told WUSA 9.

McClain recalled hearing the gunshot but said she looked outside and saw nothing. That's how quickly this fatal shooting happened.
