Maine State Police divers searched underwater near Milton Three Ponds Dam Wednesday as part of the continued investigation into a local man who went missing following a domestic assault in April.

Maine State Police Detective Chris Kennedy confirmed Thursday that Underwater Recovery Team divers searched the water for four hours Wednesday because domestic violence suspect Dale Godfrey, 52, of Lebanon, was last seen near the water.

However, Kennedy said divers didn’t find Godfrey or recover any evidence connected to the man. Eight representatives of the State Police were at the scene Wednesday.

Godfrey has been missing since a female victim reported he allegedly assaulted her at his Sam Wentworth Road home at about 4 a.m. on April 26. State Police have described the incident as “violent.”

Godfrey allegedly fled the scene in his pickup truck. On April 28, troopers and Maine game wardens found Godfrey’s truck in a wooded area off Champion Street, as well as the man’s checkbook in a stream in that area.

That sounds kind of promising but then there's this in that article as well.

The reason why Milton Three Ponds Dam was searched Wednesday wasn’t necessarily due to new leads in the case, but rather because the Underwater Recovery Team training exercise recently received approval to conduct training, according to Kennedy.“When State Police had the opportunity to do a training exercise, they did the training in that area to kind of kill two birds with one stone,” he said.

Details of Disappearance
Godfrey was last seen in Lebanon, Maine on April 26, 2017. At 4:00 a.m., he got into confrontation with his wife at their home on Sam Wentworth Road and attempted to strangle her. He fled the scene in his pickup truck and has never been heard from again. His wife was later treated at the hospital and released.

On April 28, Godfrey's truck was found a few miles away, in a ditch about fifteen to twenty yards down a driveway near the intersection of Poplar Hill Road, T.M. Wentworth Road, and Champion Street. The interior of the truck was covered in blood; Godfrey had been known to keep multiple box cutters in the truck. That same day, his checkbook was found in a nearby stream.

Godfrey was indicted on multiple charges, including aggravated assault, in September 2017; these charges stem from the domestic assault on the night of his disappearance. His family stated he was not normally violent and that in the months prior to his disappearance he suddenly developed severe mental health issues, which he refused to get treatment for.

Investigators believe he's no longer alive. His case remains unsolved.

I didn’t see this article from April 2018 posted yet. This case makes me so sad. We’ve seen it before but its scary how mental illness can happen seemingly out of the blue like that, and the person likely doesn’t recognize it and therefore refuses treatment. My thoughts and prayers go out to Dale’s wife, children, other family, and friends. My guess is self harm and then he jumped into the water. MOO. I hope they get answers someday soon.
