And to use a totally unrelated race-horse analogy, he has "bolted from the gate" with over 185 matches over 40cm; by comparison very many DDP long-term cases have 0 matches at that level. I really hope this means a fast ID in this case.

Interesting, he has a very similar admixture with Kern County Jane Doe (2011), they both have big part of East Mediterranean admixture.

No worries, the mistake is understandable.
Plus some last seen dates are incorrect or guesses, anyway.

That is very typical for Ashkenazi Jews. My husband is fully Ashkenazi and has the same result.
Also on the DDP sheet Jonesport Doe has over 3000 matches but all match him in the 80s (centimorgans). And he has tons (over 70) matches with family trees-in opposition to most other Does who have very few matches with trees. All this is due to endogamy and the very pronounced interest of Ashkenazi Jews in genealogy. The same pattern is seen in Kern Ct 2011 Jane Doe.
Both are Ashkenazi or of significant Ashkenazi heritage.

Still, identification will be difficult as their genepool is so endogamous, its like a big bowl of spaghetti interlinking.

DDP replied recently on their facebook page that they are still working on this case

I have read that DDP invited a specialist in Jewish genealogy to their team. Anthony Armbrust (Park co John Doe) who was identified last month, was half- Ashkenazi Jewish(by his maternal side), in the press conference the team leader for this case was describing how difficult it was to identify him, I think they mentioned that many records in Eastern Europe were destroyed and also many Jewish families changed their names before coming to America. I think you can still watch the press conference on Park co (Colorado) coroner facebook page.

I have found that the Jewish population of Maine is approximately 9000 people, not too big.

As someone with a Jewish background, doing genealogy is incredibly difficult, bordering on impossible. The Eastern European (Romanian) part of my family has functionally no records beyond my dad's grandparents, so I would not be shocked that this requires someone with an expert background.

I really think it depends on where the families are from. My husband is entirely Hungarian/Western Romanian Ashkenazi and can trace his lineage fairly well.

I apologize for any confusion.
I was referring to the lack of identifiers: fingerprints, DNA, and dental profiles. Doe Network doesn't list if he has any, and we can no longer see that information in NamUs. We used to be able to see what bioinformatics they had on file in NamUs.
