Federal investigators are taking a look at the 2004 death of Kathleen Savio and the police investigation that followed the mysterious drowning of Savio, Drew Peterson's third wife.

Their effort, according to a law enforcement source, will include reviewing documents related to Savio's death, which initially was ruled an accident.

The FBI has been assisting the State Police in their probe into the disappearance of Stacy Peterson, the former Bolingbrook sergeant's current wife.

12/14/2007 MyFoxChicago VIDEO: Investigators follow money trail from Drew Peterson to his son.

Craig Wall reporting for Fox News: "Sources have confirmed that prosecutors have subpoenaed bank records that show Drew Peterson, in the weeks after his wife’s disappearance funneled nearly a quarter of a million dollars to his son Steve, an Oak Brook police officer. Steve Peterson has now testified twice before the Grand Jury investigating Stacy Peterson’s disappearance and although he declined to comment, a law enforcement source said prosecutors most assuredly would want answers about the money trail.

According to sources, Drew Peterson has transferred more than $250,000 to his son from several bank accounts including joint accounts he held with Stacy. Investigators found that Drew wrote as many as six checks to Steve all within a few days in mid November including one check for more than $150,000.

Tonight Drew Peterson declined to comment and so did his attorney.

Joel Brodsky: "I'm not going to comment on my clients personal financial affairs. I'm sure, and if that’s true, I'm not even sure on whether or not it is, I'm sure there's legitimate reasons for it."

One legal expert says Peterson’s motive could be to protect his assets in case he gets sued. Tonight Kathleen Savio’s sister said the family has indeed contacted lawyers about filing a wrongful death lawsuit against Drew. He was in the mist of divorcing Kathleen when she mysteriously died in her bathtub in 2004.

Also tonight Fox News has learned that state police have asked prosecutors for another search warrant for additional cell phone records relating to Drew.

Drew Peterson Said He Was With His Fourth Wife, Stacy Peterson, When Kathleen Savio Died, But Phone Records May Prove Otherwise

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (CBS) ― Investigators are zeroing in on the timeline before the death of Kathleen Savio, the third wife of former Bolingbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson.

Their inquiry has led them to seek out nearly 4-year-old phone records that could raise doubt about Drew Peterson's alibi regarding where he was in the 48 hours before Savio was found dead in a bathtub.

As CBS 2 West Suburban Bureau Chief Mike Puccinelli reports, sources say Stacy Peterson was looking for her husband, Drew Peterson, the day before his Savio was found dead in her home. Sources say investigators also know Stacy Peterson repeatedly called her husband's cell phone that day to try and find him.

fundraising Web site was set up in missing mom Stacy Peterson's name. Then, her husband, Drew Peterson, started one of his own. Now, relatives of Peterson's deceased third wife have made it an Internet trifecta with a site to raise money for battered women.

But Kathleen Savio's sister was skeptical of the Web site and the relatives she says launched it.

Peterson’s Old Will Under New Scrutiny (VIDEO)Last Edited: Tuesday, 15 Jan 2008, 9:02 PM CST Created: Tuesday, 15 Jan 2008, 8:56 PM CST

Chicago -- Drew Peterson is under new scrutiny because of a hand-written will signed nearly ten years ago. The former Bolingbrook police sergeant, a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife Stacy, is also under investigation in the death of his third wife Kathleen Savio. Now, in a Fox News Chicago exclusive, Craig Wall has learned the will has been subpoenaed by a grand jury.

Drew Peterson's former friend, Ric Mims, appeared again before a special grand jury Thursday, this time to testify about how he and Peterson used to follow Peterson's third wife around before their divorce was settled.

After spending about 45 minutes in the Will County grand jury room, Mims told reporters that he was asked mostly about Kathleen Savio, Peterson's ex-wife who was found dead in a dry bathtub in 2004.

Before Drew Peterson could buy a house in 2002 for himself and his 18-year-old girlfriend, Stacy Cales, he needed his estranged wife, Kathleen Savio, to sign off on the deal.

But Savio's signature on the legal document looks radically different from more than a dozen others she had written before she died in 2004, a Chicago Sun-Times investigation has found. "That's definitely not her signature," Savio's sister, Anna Doman, said after viewing a copy of the one-page power of attorney that Drew Peterson himself notarized. "I know that's not her signature."

For the first time, the Will County state's attorney's office has confirmed that a grand jury is investigating the disappearance of Drew Peterson's fourth wife Stacy, and the death of his third wife Kathleen Savio.

As CBS 2's Rafael Romo reports, as the grand jury examines the evidence, a status hearing will be held Friday morning at the Will County Courthouse to make a final determination on whether Drew Peterson may recover items seized from his house as part of the investigation.

The validity of some important documents is being questioned in the complex saga involving ex-Bolingbrook police Sgt. Drew Peterson, his missing wife Stacy, and his deceased wife, Kathleen Savio.

In 2002, Drew Peterson wanted to buy a house for himself and his 18-year-old girlfriend, Stacy Cales. But he hit a big roadblock: He needed estranged wife Savio to sign off on the deal.

Family Of Drew Peterson's 3rd Wife Say Her Estate Was Mishandled

BOLI NGBROOK, Ill. (CBS) ― Former Bolingbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson is about to face another legal battle, this time involving the family of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. Savio's relatives just hired a big-name New York lawyer. CBS 2 West Suburban Bureau Chief Mike Puccinelli has an exclusive report on a new lawsuit.

It's a 40-page document that lays the groundwork for Savio's family to sue former Peterson in civil court. On page three it says, "your petitioners are prepared to initiate a wrongful death cause of action against drew Peterson on behalf of the estate of Kathleen Savio" whose death the document goes on to say " was not an accident and it was not suicide."

The family of Drew Peterson's third wife wants to wrest her estate from his control and give it to the couple's two sons.

The petition to reopen the estate of the third wife, Kathleen Savio, also alludes to an impending wrongful death lawsuit against Peterson.

We'll see what goes here," said Savio's sister, Anna Marie Doman. "If it flies from here, that's the direction we'll go."

The man leading them in the this direction is the same attorney who helped take O.J. Simpson for $33.5 on behalf of his dead wife Nicole Brown Simpson's family.

Joliet lawyer Lawrence Varsek filed a motion to allow New York City attorney John Quinlan Kelly to come on board for Savio's family.

2 more Savio relatives ask to reopen estate
Chicago Tribune - United States

The father of Kathleen Savio and one of his children have filed notice of their intent to reopen the estate of the former wife of Drew Peterson.

Attorney Martin Glink filed notice in Will County Circuit Court this week on behalf of Henry J. Savio and Susan Doman.

Their motion would be both a petition to reopen the case and a response to a Jan. 31 petition by Kathleen Savio's sister and brother, Anna Doman and Henry M. Savio, which sought to block the father from being named executor of the estate.

Bolingbrook, IL - A hearing on two requests to reopen the estate of Drew Peterson’s third wife is set to go before a Will County judge briefly Wednesday morning.

Attorneys for both sides expect the judge to schedule another hearing for Monday, March 17, to give both sides more time to prepare before presenting their petitions and arguments.

JOLIET -- Lawyers representing Kathleen Savio's family were in court for the first time Wednesday morning as they try to take control of her estate from Drew Peterson, her former husband, and one of his relatives.

But the hearing was brief.

Joliet lawyer Lawrence Varsek simply asked Will County Judge Carmen Goodman if they could return to court on March 17.

The parties involved in the case need time to organize various issues, he said.

The judge quickly agreed.

The Savio family believes that all of Savio's assets should go to her children.

convicted cop killer reputed to have organized crime connections was subpoenaed to testify at the grand jury investigating the fate of Drew Peterson's last two wives.

State police served Anthony "Bindy" Rock, 68, with his papers Friday, a source said. Contacted Friday night, Rock declined to comment.

Rock was a central figure in an unsanctioned undercover investigation Peterson undertook while he was on loan from the Bolingbrook Police Department to the Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad in 1985. That investigation led to Peterson's indictment on charges of official misconduct and failure to report a bribe.

"We have been investigating this as a murder since reopening the case in November of last year. We now have a scientific basis to formally and publicly classify it as such," said State's Atty. James Glasgow.

Savio was the third wife of former Bolingbrook police Sgt. Drew Peterson
