13 men charged in alleged plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer

The men discussed attacking a Michigan State Police facility and suggested shooting up the governor’s vacation home, authorities allege.

More than a dozen men were arrested on federal and state charges in connection with an alleged foiled plot to kidnap Michigan’s Democratic governor, Gretchen Whitmer, authorities said Thursday.

Six were apprehended and charged with federal crimes, while another seven were picked up on state charges, officials in Michigan said.

All are members of two militia groups "who were preparing to kidnap and possibly kill me," Whitmer said in an address from Lansing late Thursday afternoon following the arrests...

''Thirteen people, including seven men associated with the Wolverine Watchmen militia group, have been arrested in alleged plots to kidnap the Michigan governor and attack the state capitol building, prosecutors said on Thursday.''

''In September, Fox posted in an encrypted chat that he did not want a final training exercise to be held in the last week of October because it would not leave enough time to execute the kidnapping before the national election on Nov. 3, Trask said.

“Snatch and grab, man. Grab the *advertiser censored****’ Governor. Just grab the ,” Fox allegedly wrote in an exchange about kidnapping Whitmer at her vacation or summer home.

“I just wanna make the world glow, dude. I’m not even *advertiser censored****’ kidding. I just wanna make it all glow dude. I don’t *advertiser censored****’ care anymore, I’m just so sick of it. That’s what it’s gonna take for us to take it back, we’re just gonna have to ― everything’s gonna have to be annihilated man,” Fox said.

“We’re gonna topple it all, dude.”

My oldest son, a police officer, said yes when I asked if he knew one of the subject's in Belleville. He told me the fellow lived in his subdivision. This plot was very detailed. How scary knowing they were by her summer place a couple of times and her house in Lansing. I heard about the raid in Hartland last night on our local news. I am so glad no one was harmed. The hair on my neck stood up. You don't have to like our Govenor but there is no reason to kill her or her family.

Thank you to the tips and police etc that apprehended the suspects.

''Fox, who was described as one of the leaders, was living in the basement of a vacuum shop in Grand Rapids. The owner said Fox was opposed to wearing a mask during the pandemic and kept firearms and ammunition at the store.

“He was anti-police, anti-government,” Brian Titus told WOOD-TV. “He was afraid if he didn’t stand up for the Second Amendment and his rights that the country is going to go communism and socialism.”

Years ago, I knew someone who lived in the manufactured home community that the guy from Hartland was arrested in. I grew up in Livingston County.

In some ways, I am completely shocked. But I also spent a good two years or so going down the OK City Bombing rabbit hole, so in other ways, I'm not surprised at all, especially given the current climate in the States.

All MOO

This is chilling. Even more chilling is knowing that these militia groups are everywhere. This is not an isolated incident. The FBI did an outstanding job and I hope their continued vigilance will protect other governors and officials.
JMO MOO

The arrest affidavit is chilling in the stark presentation of the facts. The suspects certainly came across as completely serious about it, not only by their words but their actions.

Excellent job by LE, I think they prevented a very major incident, imo.

FBI busts 'plot' to abduct US governor

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said that separate to the kidnapping charges seven members of the "wolverine watchmen" militia will be charged by the state with gang affiliation and providing material support to terrorists. Ms Nessel said the arrested militia members hoped to start a civil war.

It's been reported that these men have links to a militia group called the Boogaloo Bois. This is a movement that has grown online.

Numerous violent incidents have been linked to citizen militia groups across the US in recent years. Adherents, who are often white men, sometimes brandish weapons during protests. The Department of Homeland Security warned this week in an annual report that violent white supremacy was the "most persistent and lethal threat in the homeland".

Whitmer conspiracy allegations tied to 'boogaloo' movement

Several of the men charged with a conspiracy to kidnap Michigan's governor have histories of anti-government organizing, according to their online profiles.

Several of the six men charged in federal court Thursday with a conspiracy to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer have histories of anti-government organizing, as well as interest in countering what they saw as an "uprising" against President Donald Trump, according to their online profiles and comments.

In addition, several of the seven men facing separate state terrorism charges for their activity with a group called the Wolverine Watchmen also posted pro-Trump and anti-government content.

The men have not yet appeared in court or entered pleas...

This really is crazy scary. There's so much else going on, news-wise, right now that this story has been a bit buried. I woke up in the night thinking about so many aspects of this.

These men really think they are the Constitution in action - deluded by their narrow and superficial reading of the second amendment. I read an online discussion about whether it was okay to call them terrorists and other pro-militia people were upset that they were using the term militia.

But that's what the term militia has come to mean right now (far right people who oppose BLM and have infiltrated our police forces in so many places).

I wonder how many other crimes we will see emanating from these groups. Or obstruction of justice.

@BettyDavisEyes, thank you so much for your posts, it's such a help in keeping up with this story.

“It’s just a charge, and they say a 'plot to kidnap' and you got to remember that. Are they trying to kidnap? Because a lot of people are angry with the governor, and they want her arrested. So are they trying to arrest or was it a kidnap attempt? Because you can still in Michigan if it's a felony, make a felony arrest,” Leaf said
“I think it's MCL 764.4, 764.5 somewhere on there [MCL 764.16]and it doesn't say if you are an elected office that you're exempt from that arrest. I have to look at it from that angle and I’m hoping that's more what it is, in fact, these guys are innocent till proven guilty so I’m not even sure if they had any part of it,” Leaf added.
