Police were told by witnesses that around midnight on May 19, 2018, the two walked away from a townhouse on Valleywood Court, near the intersection of Centre Avenue and Oakland Drive in Portage. It’s less than a mile from the police department.

“Five hours later, around 5 a.m., Nick returned to the townhouse and Facio has never been seen again,” the police chief said.

Armold said Pena’s social media activity stopped that same day.

“One of the difficulties in the Facio Pena case is that the people involved that we’re getting the the information from, none of them are very credible,” Armold said.

“Now that (the Johnson) case came up last week, it just simply maybe verifies what we were thinking in 2018,” he added. “Hindsight is 20/20. The only connection that Nick Johnson has is he was the last person seen with Pena and that’s where it stops.”

Details of Disappearance
Bonifacio was last seen in Portage, Michigan on May 19, 2018. He was staying with a woman and a friend, Nicholas Johnson. On the day of his disappearance, the woman gave both of them bandanas and Bonifacio and Nicholas left the residence together on foot.

Later that day, Nicholas returned to the woman's home alone, and said Bonifacio had gotten into a car with unidentified friends. He had Bonifacio's bandana and was acting extremely anxious. Bonifacio has never been heard from again. After his disappearance, Nicholas tried to claim his belongings, and the woman had to act secretly to return them to Bonifacio's mother.

In February 2021, Nicholas's parents, Gary and Laura Johnson, disappeared from their Portage residence. When police went to their home to do a welfare check, they found signs of violence inside it. Several days later, their bodies were found in a state game area; they'd been murdered. Nicholas was arrested on outstanding warrants in the days after his parents went missing. He had a history of violence towards then, and after their bodies were found, he was charged with their murders. Authorities stated he was a person of interest in Bonifacio's disappearance as well. He has not faced charges in Bonifacio's case, however.

It's uncharacteristic of Bonifacio to leave without warning, and investigators believe he may be deceased. His case remains unsolved.

PORTAGE, Mich. — The Portage police chief said the only hope in solving a missing teen may hang on getting help from a man accused of killing his parents.

A Michigan State Police helicopter searched the night skies over Portage March 31, 2021, for any signs of Bonafacio Pena, 17. of Gobles. Portage Department of Public Safety Chief Nicholas Armold said the Wednesday night search didn't turn up new clues.

Nick Johnson is also considered a person of interest in the case of 17-year-old Bonifacio Pena, who vanished in 2018 after having last been seen with Nick Johnson. Williams told News 8 that Portage police are still investigating that case, but no charges are imminent.

Do we know who's house they were seen leaving? OR if any of his belongings have ever been found?
There are many businesses in the area, I wonder if cameras were ever checked?
