Charles O. Brandt Jr. was 38 when he was last seen Jan. 6, 1991. He lived on Kirtwood Dr., a street that links Sterns and S. Telegraph Rds. when, investigators believe, he was abducted against his will and killed by members of a motorcycle gang.

Mr. Brandt, who grew up in New York, bought the house on Kirtwood in Temperance after his job transferred him to Toledo. He called his mother on a weekly basis and when he stopped, she immediately became worried. A missing person investigation was then launched.

Detectives from the Monroe post discovered that Mr. Brandt got into some trouble with a motorcycle gang. According to a lengthy police report, not only was Mr. Brandt dating the girlfriend of a 6-foot-7 biker known as the Enforcer, he also owed another biker $30,000. And drugs apparently were involved in the mix, the report stated. Several weeks before he disappeared, Mr. Brandt found a black rose on the windshield of his vehicle, which is a known death threat.

Investigators found his house in disarray and items missing. His 1982 Chevrolet Blazer was found abandoned at a Toledo airport two weeks after the disappearance. The investigation led police to Ohio, Indiana and Florida, but no sign of Mr. Brandt was ever found.
