eta: I went back to look at the names we had suggested, and it appears Susan Smith, Michelle Bianco, and Barbara Farnsworth have still not been ruled out.

Last week at the Missing in Michigan, i met two journalists (Alex Jokich and Carter Gent) who just won a prestigious Murrow award for this documentary about a man who is serving LWOP for a murder he committed in Kalamazoo. Alex and Carter connected the dots and discovered that he is a likely serial murderer, and that he is probably the killer of this Comstock Jane Doe, as well as several other murders in Florida, North Carolina, Michigan, and New York..

You would think a local resident would have to know where the body was left...However, if someone got off on the Galesburg exit they could have stumbled on this location...It's somewhat secluded and if they went at night they may not encounter anyone....

Until recently once you got off this exit, you couldn't re-enter the highway...you could only reach this exit going 94 West....There is not a corresponding exit going 94 eastbound...There is a state rest or truck stop near by (only westbound)...Also during hunting season there are hunters in the area...

Not sure it matters but the location on Namus has the side of the highway I refer to above, but the ML Ave address is on the opposite side...That's the area where I saw hunters...The only other thing on that side of the highway I can recall is a winery...

There's also a back way to Battle Creek to Kalamazo...I believe it takes you through Comstock...G Ave to Gull Road...

There are so many possibilities...It could be a female from the area that wasn't reported missing...

I watched the documentary...It was good and very detailed...The wife/ex-wife and children are lucky to be alive. His hate for women was evident...

I think it's possible Sugrim is the killer of this unidentified victim. I didn't realize the location of her body was accessible from Sprinkle Rd...Sprinkle is normally a busy area, but in the middle of the night he probably went unnoticed...

It fits with the other victim that was found in an industrial area. The ML Ave turn off on Sprinkle has to be near the old Fisher Body (GM) factory....

If the UID was a prostitute she was most likely arrested for drugs and prostitution....Even though some prostitutes are transient she may have lived in Kzoo...I wonder if LE started from the day her body was found and worked backwards looking for women who were arrested for prostitution but had no additional arrest after the body was found...If Craigslist and Backpage have archives I wonder if a women fitting the UID's description posted an ad while the serial killer lived in the area...Those sites may Not have been around back then...

If LE performed computer forensics on his computer and location forensics on his cellphones that may help....I'm sure everything I suggested has already been done...

To me, the artist rendering looks like Khristine Renee Smith, she still hasn't been found....and her husband could be lying of where he dumped her...

PORTAGE COLD CASE: THE DISAPPEARANCE OF KHRISTINE SMITH

Khristine Renee Smith was last seen on September 28, 1994 in Portage, Michigan. Her husband, Russell Smith, told everyone she had left voluntarily with another man. He showed people a note of explanation which he claimed she had written. Khristine's loved ones did not believe him. They did not think she would have abandoned her seven-year-old daughter.

At first police thought Khristine had in fact left Russell, but they began to suspect foul play after Russell refused to let them search his home or speak to his daughter alone. In late 1994, authorities got a warrant to search the Smith residence. They discovered no physical evidence of murder, but they did find items that led them to charge Russell with embezzlement from his employer.

Russell and Khristine's daughter was removed from their home and evidence surfaced that Russell may have been psychically abusing her. He was never charged in connection with the alleged abuse and his daughter was adopted by his parents and never lived with him again. The girl told police that her parents had argued on the day of Khristine's disappearance and she found blood in the upstairs bathroom, which Russell remodeled later that year.

Russell pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in connection to Khristine's case in 1998. He confessed that after they put their child on the school bus, they began to argue and Khristine threatened to leave with their daughter. Russel said he retrieved a gun then shot Khristine twice in the head killing her.

In his confession to investigators, Russel Smith alleged he put his wife in a storage barrel, took it downstairs and put it in his truck, in the garage. When their daughter came home from school, he drove her to Ohio to stay with his parents. After dropping her off, Smith say's he drove south for about six hours, before turning around and heading back to Kalamazoo. He say's he borrowed a boat from a friend, went to Lake Erie, traveled out about nine miles, and threw the barrel over the side of the boat.

Russell maintained that he was driven to kill her by her selfishness, meanness, and frequent affairs with other men though investigators never found evidence that Khristine had ever been unfaithful with anyone during her marriage.

In December of 1998, Russell Smith pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of Khristine Smith. Russell agreed to help detectives find her body, but searches of the lake turned up nothing. He was sentenced to 35 to 70 years in prison for his wife's murder.

Khristine's remains have never been found.

Any thoughts on Kimberly Belcher as a match to this UID? She went missing in 2000 from Jackson, MI which is about an hour away. There are not any details regarding her disappearance. Descriptors match and location is fairly close. There's an 11-year gap b/w disappearance and discovery. For all the potentials suggested and exclusions already made, I wonder why Kimberly hasn't been considered.

She went missing in April of 1978 under an hour away in Cassopolis (Sister's Lake) and she has the same height as UP. She is presumed to be murdered by her ex-husband, who she was last seen with.



There is about 2 hours between leaving with her ex and him coming back alone that are unaccounted for (see her websleuths thread if you want more detail). If this UP is Joyce, her ex could have dumped her and came back to Sisters Lake within 2 hours.

Submitted Glenna West (MP9621) and the previously mentioned Joyce Fisher.

Glenna went missing from PawPaw in 1977, which is about 30 minutes from where this UP was found. She was presumably killed by her husband. She matches UP's age and height range.
