WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. - The trial for Matthew Kuppe was set to start this month but that date has been pushed back to March while both sides are said to be working on a plea deal.

Kuppe, 21, worked as a camp counselor at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield. Federal investigators said he likely had sexual contact with children at the summer camp in 2014 and 2015...

A West Bloomfield camp counselor facing multiple child *advertiser censored* charges wants his statement to police suppressed at trial because he said he asked for an attorney and was ignored.

Matthew Kuppe did not knowingly waive his Miranda rights when he was interrogated by the FBI for nearly two hours outside his Oakland County home on Aug. 12, 2015, defense attorney Walter Piszczatowski wrote in a motion filed with U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn on Tuesday.

A recording of the interview reveals Kuppe said, “I want, I think I want a lawyer then,” according to Piszczatowski, who said in the complaint, “the request was ignored as if the words were never spoken. The interrogation then proceeded for another hour and a half.” ...

In the motion filed Tuesday, attorney Walter Piszczatowski argued the Apple iPhone was seized due to a search warrant lacking probable cause when his client, Matthew Kuppe, was arrested Aug. 12 at his home in West Bloomfield Township. How on earth I missed this I'll never know, but I cannot believe this person is out of jail!!! "Refrain" from using computers or the internet? "REFRAIN" - what odd language. How about the word PROHIBIT. How about forcing the parents to remove all computers and internet access from the home.

He must stay within the "east side of the state". All very odd to me and I don't like any of it. I hope the neighbors are well aware he is at home.

Do they think only minors in the Eastern half of Michigan are potential targets?

A West Bloomfield Township camp counselor accused of taking nude photographs of prepubescent boys pleaded guilty Thursday to a 20-year felony in the case.

Matthew David Kuppe, 21, appeared in U.S. District Court in Detroit where he entered his plea on one count of distribution of child *advertiser censored*. As part of the plea deal with prosecutors, five remaining counts against Kuppe, which included production and possession of child *advertiser censored*, will be dropped...

U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn told Kuppe that sentencing guidelines call for 10 years in prison, supervised release, restitution to the victims and registration as a federal sex offender.

When Cohn asked Kuppe if he was guilty of the crime, Kuppe said yes...

DETROIT - A former camp counselor from the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield appeared in Federal Court Thursday for his plea hearing.

West Bloomfield native Matthew Kuppe pleaded guilty to distribution of child *advertiser censored*. Kuppe entered this plea agreement with the government to serve 10 years in prison, and the other charges against him were dropped.

Federal Judge Avern Cohn asked the defendant a series of questions before honoring the plea agreement that was presented. He will be required to pay $5,000 to the court and restitution to the victims if an amount is set...

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. - A former camp counselor at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield was sentenced Tuesday for distribution of child *advertiser censored* and parents are not happy about the plea agreement.

Matthew David Kuppe, 21, of West Bloomfield, pleaded guilty to distribution of child *advertiser censored* under a plea agreement with the government to serve 10 years in prison in exchange for the charges of production, possession, and receipt of child *advertiser censored* being dropped.

Kuppe was sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by 7 years of supervised probation. The original charges carried a sentence of at least 20 years...

Detroit — A West Bloomfield Township summer camp counselor who filmed prepubescent boys in a locker room at the Jewish Community Center and posted photos on a Russian website two years ago was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison Tuesday — but didn’t deserve it, the judge said.

U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn criticized a plea deal reached between federal prosecutors that left no room for a lesser sentence for Matthew Kuppe. Cohn faulted prosecutors for treating Kuppe as a child molester even though there was no evidence the counselor sexually assaulted any of the three male victims.

“In the 37 years that I have been a judge, this case does not represent one of the government’s finest hours,” Cohn said.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office did not respond to the judge’s comments Tuesday...

I've never read/heard anywhere that Matthew had siblings. I get the impression that his parents doted on their only child who could do no wrong in their eyes. They were fooled and thought they could get him out of this "scrape" with the law by hiring high-priced attorney and meeting secretly with Judge to try to get their son off easily. Didn't work. Matt did the crime. Now, he can do the time.
