Family offers reward for information on family member missing for over 20 years

There is renewed hope Monday night for a West Michigan woman who has been searching for a missing family member for more than 20 years. 21-year-old Richard Hitchcock went missing in December of 1990.

The family tells Newschannel 3 that a retired state police officer with Michigan Backcountry Search and Rescue gave them $1,000 to help bring Hitchcock home.

When he went missing, three days before Christmas in 1990, investigators originally believed he jumped into the Kalamazoo River, but his body was never found.

Since his disappearance 24 years ago, Greene says she has searched for any information on his whereabouts.

She's done ground searches with K-9 cold case teams, used ground penetrating radar, and even used an excavator to dig in people's yards.

Reward money has been increased.

Even though the deadline for the full reward is approaching, Greene said she will never give up on her cousin.

“I’m gonna keep going and do it as long as it takes,” said Greene. “Keep going and if I find him myself or push someone else into it, it has to be done. I will do this until my dying breath.”

“It’s 25 years that we haven’t gotten to spend birthdays, Christmas, or any holidays together,” said Green. “And it’s 25 years of questions I’ve had that we shouldn’t have to ask. We should know these answers already. So our main goal is to find Richie’s remains and give our family some peace.”
...
Green has received consent to dig up the floor in search of Hitchcock only if she pays to replace it, so she’s hosting a fundraising charity chicken dinner at the Eagles Lodge on March 20th, 2016 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. More information can be found on Green’s Facebook group, Help Us Find Richard Hitchcock. Race car drivers at Kalamazoo Motor Speedway are driving for more than just a fast time this year, decals of West Michigan cold case murder victims will be helping find justice on the track all year...

“It helps us keep the faith and keep hope alive,” said Yunginger. “That one day we’ll get the answers we deserve.”

Yulinger has been searching for her cousin Richie Hitchcock’s remains ever since his disappearance more than 25 years ago from the River Front Lounge in Allegan.

New tip could provide answers: http://wwmt.com/news/i-team/tip-provides-new-hope-for-family-of-man-missing-for-27-years

Witnesses say 27 years ago they last saw Richard Hitchcock, as they say he walked out of a nearby bar, and they say he possibly fell into the Kalamazoo River. After weeks of searching however, they could not find a body.

Now, 27 years later, the family says it has new hope based on new possible tip, about what might have happened to Hitchcock, and where his body ended up.

We spoke with Hitchcock's younger brother near a location in West Michigan where he and other family members suspect Hitchcock might be buried.

28 years. someone knows where his remains are. He needs to come home.

New law could help solve missing persons cases

Richard Hitchcock, has been missing since 1990. He was genuinely a good person," she said as she looked at his missing person flyer. Hitchcock was last seen December 22, 1990 leaving a bar in Allegan County. Since then, the Sheriff's office says the case has gone cold.

Here we are, still don't know where our Richie is. We didn't get to say good bye. We didn't get to bury him, somebody else did. I don't want another family to have to go through that, that's not fair."

But she believes the new law will help. Michigan authorities will now have to enter missing people into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System or NAMUS.

the family just had a big fundraiser and increased the reward. If you lead them to Richie's remains - $10k!! His cousin, Kellie B, is a wonderful advocate not only for Richie, but for missing persons in Michigan.
