    Hi all,

I'm working on something right now and I could use a little help. I'm looking to compile a list of children under 5 who disappeared in the early to mid sixties. Here's what I have so far:

    Elizabeth Gill
    http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/2144dfmo.html
    http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/g/gill_elizabeth.html
    http://www.missingkids.com/missingk...NCMC&seqNum=1&caseLang=en_US&searchLang=en_US

    Todd Collett
    http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/641dmca.html
    http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/c/collett_todd.html

    James Bordenkircher
    http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/3508dmca.html
    http://www.missingkids.com/missingk...NCMC&seqNum=1&caseLang=en_US&searchLang=en_US

That's all I can find so far! Any others I'm missing?

There are probably quite a few more. Keep in mind that the websites you are using are all fairly new, and they are adding cases every day to their sites. There are a number of cases involving missing children in the threads here on Websleuths.

Thanks for your reply. I did check all the old threads here on Websleuths, and haven't found any more. I'll keep looking.

Here are a few from the mid to late sixties, all from NCMEC, found by entering the range of dates missing and the range of ages now:

George Barksdale (4 years old - went missing from Baltimore, MD in 1969)
    http://www.ncmec.org/missingkids/se...Num=051g12635&orgPrefix=USMD&searchLang=en_US

Michelle Pulsifer (3 years old - went missing from Huntington Beach, CA in 1969)
    http://www.ncmec.org/missingkids/se...NCMC&seqNum=1&caseLang=en_US&searchLang=en_US

Kathleen Shea (6 years old - went missing from Tyrone, PA in 1965)
    http://www.ncmec.org/missingkids/se...NCMC&seqNum=1&caseLang=en_US&searchLang=en_US

Alan Westerfield (7 years old - went missing from Fayetteville, NC in 1964)
    http://www.ncmec.org/missingkids/se...NCMC&seqNum=1&caseLang=en_US&searchLang=en_US

    Hope that helps!

did you check the charley project? they already have lists of missing people by decade and then broken down by years. you can look them up by alphabetical, chronological or geographical criteria. you also look up this info with NCMEC.. but the way CP has it laid out is much easier/faster, IMO. (although with the NCMEC search engine you can get much more detailed.)

Thanks, ASU2USC. Hi reb, I have checked Doe Network, Charley Project, and NCMEC. They do add new cases all the time so I will keep checking :)

I've been in contact with someone who was kidnapped as a child and is searching for her true identity. The police aren't helping her because she has no "proof" of anything and can only remember her age and general time frame during which she was kidnapped. She can't go public because the kidnapper is still alive.

OMG, how awful for your friend. Good luck. my advice is to maybe take them to a hypnotist, maybe they can unlock something. Eevn if it is only a state then go from there with old newspapers at the library. best of luck to you both.

If I may ask, what does it have to do with her kidnapper still being alive? Is she afraid of him (assuming it's a 'him')?
Can your friend hire a PI? I can see why the police can't do anything, w/o concrete evidence. Or maybe a good psychologist is a good place to start.. they could help her clarify the memories/emotions and possible facts associated with the event. Or maybe get in touch with all the major MP sites/agencies and see what they would advise...?

Not to be nosy and you don't have to answer- but how does she know she was kidnapped? If she has the general time frame and place, can she check old news archives? There must be so many missing kids that were just a blip in the news (if at all) but then dropped off the records over the years as people moved on with their lives, had other kids, etc.
But please let us know what happens... I hope she can find some answers!

We've been checking over at newspaperarchive.com - I have a subscription there and have done lots of searches. I did manage to find two cases that hadn't been posted anywhere else and weren't on the missing persons websites. Neither of them are her though. I continue to check because they're always adding new papers. Hypnosis may be a good way to uncover some memories - I will ask her if she's tried that. She remembers being kidnapped, and has a vague memory of her parents, but nothing concrete like a name or what state she lived in. She's afraid of her kidnapper which is why she doesn't want any info about her being made public. She has been working with a PI - so far they haven't found anything. I recently put her in touch with another PI so we will see what happens. The PI said she would need to go to individual police stations and libraries to find info about missing children from that time frame. My friend has talked to the NCMEC but basically they were unable to help. They said they didn't have anyone in their database that matched her info, and if she wanted a DNA test she'd have to pay for it herself.

Also, unfortunately, when people come forward like this, some people have a tendency to think it is a 'hoax', especially when they have no proof of anything. I know some posters on here were taken in by the Delia Cly hoax awhile back (before I joined), so some might be wary of cases like this. However, I believe her and that's why I'm trying to help her :)

That's all you can do is give her the benefit of the doubt and be a good frined to her. Is there a family member she can trust to lay this out to and jsut ask?

i prefer to give the person the benefit of the doubt, unless i had reason to doubt. can you imagine having these memories and what if nobody believed you?

just a question though... does she know about how old she was? and what happened? any chance she might be remembering being taken away by an adoptive parent (or just given away to someone by parents who couldn't care for her.. or taken away by CPS).. and she was so traumatized by it that she remembers it as a kidnapping?

For anyone who is skeptical, I would like to point out that there are several other cases of people being abducted and living into adulthood, not knowing who their true family is:

Sharon Marshall. She has a thread right here in cold cases. We all know she was abducted. What if Floyd had let her get her own apartment when she became an adult, but warned her not to look for her real family? Things never got to that point because, sadly, he killed her before she could get away.

Monica Libao. She went on Unsolved Mysteries, you can read about it here:
    http://www.unsolved.com/0205-Libao.html

The man who thought he might be Russell Mort:
In 2005, a man from Texas contacted authorities and stated he believed he was Mort. The individual was adopted, and stated his adoptive parents gave evasive answers when he asked about his history. He decided he may be Mort after he saw the child profiled on a missing persons website. Authorities tested the Texas man's DNA against DNA from Mort's family, but the samples did not match.
    http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/m/mort_russell.html

"C". For those who read the Anna Waters forum, this is the woman who thought she might be Anna. DNA tests proved it was not a match.

Louise Rosenkranz was reunited with her daughter Stella Faye after 55 years:
    http://findmywayhome.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5

Those of us in the Anna Waters forum are hoping that Anna is alive out there and will find her way home.

Sure, there are hoaxes out there. But why does one bad apple have to spoil the whole bunch? I've talked with this woman on the phone and exchanged many emails. Whereas Delia Cly seemed to have no problem posting about her life - and posting pictures of herself - on a public forum, this woman keeps her communications private with people she trusts. I just went and looked at the Delia Cly thread in the archives, and I'm sure it's not the same person. (the writing styles are totally different, as are all the details of family names, states they lived in, what she remembers, etc.) I suppose some could think it's a different "hoaxster" with a similar story. I, however, give her the benefit of the doubt. If we don't believe people when they come forward, they will never come forward. There could be other Sharon Marshalls out there who are too terrified to even do what this woman has done, which is ask a handful of trusted people for help.

Anyway, I've gotten a lot of great research done in the process of trying to help her - I found 2 missing child cases in the newspaper archives that were not in the NCMEC. That's the way it works a lot of times - you start out working on one case, and end up uncovering info about another case.

Thanks to all who want to help. If you find any more missing children from the 60s, even just a mention in an article, please post them here. I've been to the major websites, so now I'm looking for stuff that is a bit harder to find. I do know a bit more about this woman, but I probably shouldn't post too much here to protect her privacy. Next time I talk to her I have some questions to ask her though :)
