MN - Amir Locke, 22, fatally shot in no-knock raid, Minneapolis, 2 FEB 2022

No knock warrants need to be outlawed. They are dangerous for everyone involved. Criminal or not, police aren’t in the position of deciding who lives and dies. We have a legal system that does that. I never want to live in a world where police can kill “criminals” on sight without a trial and conviction.

This wasn't an execution. I don't want to live in a world where LE does not have tools to protect themselves. Moo.

If the police had made entry and ONE person yelled '' Wake up, Minneapolis police, we have a warrant!'' ,instead of 4 people all yelling different things so he couldn't understand what the heck was going on, do you think he would have reached for his gun? I don't think so.

Judge unseals search warrants at center of police shooting of Amir Locke

''The warrant states that investigators reviewed Bolero Flats security footage with staff at the apartment building. They told police they believed the suspect in the sweatshirt was connected to Apartment 701. That unit was being rented to the girlfriend of Speed’s brother, who also lived there.''

Busy place.

This one is short and sweet, since it did only take seconds. It shows a very slowed down version as well as normal speed. No commentary.

Thanks for posting this video. I wonder if we'll ever see the body cam video from the cop who shot Amir. Seems to me that video would give the best view/ perspective of what happened .

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed>

Is there a definitive police report that clarifies if he had the gun with him or if he grabbed it from a nearby stand? I've read both and although I've watched the video several times, I cant really tell for sure. Either way, he had the gun in his hand and it would have taken only a millisecond to move his finger to the trigger and shoot. Apparently, there were 2 other people in the apt at the time. I wonder who they were and why we haven't heard anything about them.

So in the end no one related to the investigation was in any of the apartments they searched, and they managed to arrest the guy a few days later somewhere else without having to kick down doors in the middle of the night. If only they could do that from the beginning.

They weren't just looking for a suspect, they were looking for evidence.

*The St. Paul and Minneapolis Police Departments had search warrants that authorized the search of three apartments at the Bolero Flats. Minneapolis and St. Paul officers also had ''probable cause pick up and holds'' to arrest Mekhi Speed and two of his associates for murder and aiding an offender after the fact. The search warrants authorized the search of apartments 701, 1402 and 1403.

* From apt 701-- Investigators seized a black Canada Goose jacket with fur that appeared to be the jacket worn by Speed after leaving the stolen Mercedes-Benz at the Leamington parking ramp on January 11, 2022. Officers also recovered a bullet, a gun in A.L.’s possession and marijuana from the apartment.

*From apt 1402---Investigators seized a black hat that matched the hat worn by Speed when he returned to the Bolero Flats on January 10, 2022 after the murder. Investigators seized a black duffle bag with a white logo that appeared to be the bag carried by a person with Speed when the Mercedes-Benz was left at the Leamington ramp. Investigators seized tennis shoes similar to those worn by the person carrying the black duffle bag. Investigators seized a dark blue Tommy Hilfiger jacket. This jacket appeared to be the same jacket worn by an unidentified male who was with Mekhi Speed when he returned to the Bolero Flats after the murder.

*From apt 1403---Mekhi Speed’s friend was associated with apartment 1403. He was not present but another male was present when the warrant was executed. Investigators seized a large amount of marijuana from apartment 1403.

Yeah but evidence is not going to grow legs and run either. I know that warrants are not just to arrest people lol, but in the 10 seconds that it takes to knock and announce yourself they’re not going to get rid of any significant evidence particularly if you’ve just been woken up. Surely they don’t need all this to collect some evidence.

What I’m saying is, other countries manage to do it, why can’t they? Here in the UK they also execute search warrants when they know people have guns inside. There are specialist armed police teams that do that, they manage to announce that they are there and give residents a reasonable amount time to respond. Then they carry out the arrest and search without barging it guns blazing.

I’m sure that law enforcement in the US is perfectly capable of doing this too. It’s absolutely mental that people see this as normal and justify it like there’s no other way of doing it. I don’t even understand why law enforcement agree to put themselves in danger by creating such dangerous and unpredictable situations when they could just do things differently. Literally no one wins

Agreed.
I believe LE acted correctly and it's not fair to expect them to wait until the criminal shoots first to justify that they're a danger.
LE knew they were going into a death trap situation, hence the "No knock" warrant.
A.M. could have killed the LE.
Think about that.
These LE who daily put their own lives on the line.

Ita.
One or more of the people involved in the murder in St. Paul were long past the expectation of behaving in a calm and civilized manner.
Imo, they weren't going down without a fight.
Also if LE hadn't fired their weapons --especially if the perp had the gun in his hand or on his nightstand -- we'd possibly be hearing about a dead LE.
LE are the people who are called during a break in, a robbery, or domestic assault.
We expect them to put their own lives on the line.

People want a safe society, but some people do not like it when they see LE doing the job they're paid to do -- ensuring our own safety !
Rest in peace to the person murdered by Amir Locke's cousin, and whomever else may have been involved.

Eta : It would appear that LE found evidence relating to the murder in St. Paul.

Lavender bolded : Actually, in Amir Locke's case, LE did not, "...barge it guns blazing...".
That is not how it happened, there's bodycam footage released by LE to support this.

They did not shoot until they saw the gun in Amir's hand.
They acted within protocol for the situation.

Green bolded : Respectfully, there is another view.
There is nothing "mental" about LE acting in a manner to defend themselves in an extremely hostile situation.
No one should expect LE to wait until the perp fires the first shot.
If that were the case, we might not have a police force at all and every man or woman for themselves.
Complete lawlessness without justice.

If it weren't for LE, there'd be no civilized society and instead there'd be anarchy which might give rise to a dictatorship.

It appears that in this particular case, LE did not decide "...who lives and who dies..".
Rather, it was self-defense when the perp had a gun in his hand. Even if it was pointed at the ground, it takes less than a second to raise and fire it.
This was not an execution.
LE are allowed to protect themselves and this was a volatile situation.
MOO.

In a search warrant released by a judge’s order Thursday, police argued a no-knock warrant was necessary in the raid that led to Amir Locke’s killing because it would “not only increase officer safety, but it will also decrease the risk for injuries to the suspects and other residents nearby.

Yes, LE's job is to protect innocent people.
If Amir had fired his gun and missed the police, he may have inadvertently fired into another apartment and killed a neighbor.

Eta: If you're accused of something and think you're innocent of the charges , you can have your day in court to prove your innocence.
You don't fight it out with the cops who have a warrant... that's not their job.
Take it up with your atty.

Someone burst through the front door once many years ago late at night while I was watching TV.
First thing I did was grab the scissors on the table. Had they been yelling anything as well I'm pretty sure I would have ran to the bedroom to get my bf's baseball bat.
Had I owned a gun, well...
(Turned out to be a drunk guy who went to the wrong house, and the door wasn't closed properly.)
These no-knock warrants are not a good idea, jmo, I don't think they knew Locke was there, what if someone's child had been there?
And where he kept his gun is no one's business, since he was allowed to have one. Many Americans sleep with a gun next to them.

That is certainly true !
I support people's rights to defend themselves in the event of a home invasion.

If, however, it's LE, it's wise not to have a gun in your hand -- as LE can't predict what you're going to do.
From the msm articles, LE did not fire because the weapon was on his nightstand -- he was holding it.

If they told him to drop it --he may not have listened ?
This entire situation was sad and unfortunate, but it was avoidable.
IF Amir had fired, a LEO might be dead or even someone else in that apartment.
Bullets can travel and a neighbor might have been killed :
