Temple burglary suspect may be connected to 2009 missing woman case

A man accused of burglarizing the home of an ex-girlfriend in Temple is also a possible person of interest in a missing woman case in Bloomington, Minnesota according to investigators.

Police there say Cedric Marks is the ex-boyfriend of April Pease, who disappeared in March 2009. Investigators tell FOX44 News that the case never closed, but interest has resurfaced in Marks because of his recent arrest. He and Pease had a child together and were involved in a custody case.

Thank you, CV, for starting this thread.

I wonder where the child is now - assuming safe with (bio or adoptive) family... or older maybe?

I wonder if the child has any insight...

Snippets of the above article about April Pease in case links time out in future:
    ===
Bloomington Police department Public Information Officer Mike Hartley said they were looking at Cedric Marks as a possible person of interest in the missing persons case of April Pease. However, Hartley said he was not considered a suspect in the Pease case.
    ---
Pease and Marks were in a bitter custody battle over their son in Washington state. According to court documents, Pease was afraid of Marks and went to stay at a protected location for domestic abuse victims.

Court documents filed in Kitsap County, WA depicted Pease as a woman with severe drug addiction problems that affected the parenting and safety of her children.

The documents described Marks as someone with aggressive behavior but who was in "complete denial that he has issues around domestic violence."

The court ultimately granted Pease temporary custody believing that where Pease lived was the most predictable.

The court ordered Marks to participate in a domestic violence assessment by a certified provider along with a psychosexual evaluation by a certified provider.
    ---
Pease was last seen on March 17, 2009 in Bloomington, Minnesota. On March 20, the Kitsap County court ordered temporary placement of the child with Marks.

The court ruled Marks could take custody of the child as soon as he could make arrangements to come to Minnesota and pick the child up.

Ex-boyfriend of missing Temple woman named person of interest in 2009 disappearance of Minnesota woman

So it seems she had custody of the child but lost it when she did not appear to latest court hearing (due to her disappearance).

April Pease & Cedric Marks: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com

April Pease disappeared in 2009 during a custody battle with Cedric Marks over their child. Marks has not been named a suspect in her disappearance, but her case has gotten more attention since he was arrested and then escaped custody today in Conroe, Texas.

    [...]

Marks’ former girlfriend, April Pease, has been missing since 2009 in Minnesota. They were in a custody battle over their son when she disappeared, The Daily Mail reported. He was questioned but not arrested. Bloomington Police Public Information Officer Mike Hartlsey said in January that they were looking at Marks as a possible person of interest in Pease’s case, KCENTV reported, but he’s not considered a suspect.

Dottie Pease, April’s mother, said she struggled with substance abuse and had moved to Minnesota to seek treatment and get away from Marks, KXAN reported.

    upload_2019-2-15_3-21-14.jpeg

KCENTV reported that Pease had been afraid of Marks and moved to a place for domestic abuse victims to get away. Court documents noted that Pease had a drug addiction that affected her children’s safety. The court granted Pease custody and ordered Marks to have a domestic violence assessment. But when Pease disappeared, Marks was granted temporary custody in 2009.

According to the Charley Project page about her, Pease was last seen in March 2009 in Bloomington, Minnesota. She was born on February 15, 1979, and was 30 when she disappeared. She had just moved to Minnesota for treatment for her addiction. Her mother said that her daughter had been clean for several months and was doing well when she disappeared.

On November 1, 2008, Marks wrote a letter on WordPress about April Pease. The subject line reads, “A letter to the kidnappers of my son….” and is the only post on that blog.

    [...]

According to court documents, Pease was granted custody on March 2, 2009. Then a superseding order allowing placement with Marks was granted on March 20 when she disappeared. An “Order Allowing Continued Placement” with Marks was then entered on March 30, 2009, when Pease was still not heard from. The original order, on March 2, had ruled that Marks shouldn’t have contact with Pease or the child by phone or telephone, but he could write letters. The court also said that Pease needed to help the child draw pictures to send to Marks. Pease was ordered to have a supervised urinalysis on March 4, 2009, with results provided to the court.

Mother of missing woman believes ex-MMA fighter is involved in her disappearance

The mother of a missing woman, who disappeared from a women's shelter in Bloomington nearly 10 years ago, is pleading for information to bring her home.

“I know that one of the girls that he’s been with then or now, they know. They know something and I’m just hoping that they will tell what they know,” said Dottie Pease, mother of April Pease.

    [...]

Dottie started suspecting Cedric was involved when he was recently connected to the murders of Jenna Scott and Michael Swearingin in Texas. They had been missing for more than a week when their bodies were found buried in a shallow grave in Oklahoma last month.

Dottie now believes Cedric has something to do with her daughter’s death.

”I’m hoping that they find my daughter's remains and charge that animal and I am able to bring my daughter home,” Dottie Pease said.

Friday is April Pease’s 40th birthday.

Cedric Marks’ bond is set at $1.75 million.
