    Jerome Edwin Bye was charged with her murder in 1987 (see https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/225973791/ ). He was found not guilty but there are records of his further criminal activities in 1997 and 1999 at https://www.courtrecords.org/people/JEROME+BYE+MN/ . There is a bit more information on the case in a 2002 article on unsolved murders in the area at http://www.brainerddispatch.com/content/unsolved-crimes . Given that Bye was convicted in 1988 of theft from Lysdale I suspect the 1987 murder acquittal was more due to lack of a body than a real belief that he was innocent.
