For the locals who’ve posted- can you describe what is along the route, or what type of landmarks exist in the yellow circle provided as the search area by police? I think some had said it’s fairly rural but curious if it’s all farm/open land, wooded areas, neighborhoods, etc?

Been following this one since the very first post and it’s one of those that’s really getting to me. Probably because our kids are around the same age and her routine of dropping them off at daycare, going to work, picking up, etc feels so familiar to me. Ive got a pit in my stomach thinking about what may have happened but also holding out some hope that maybe, just maybe, she could come home. (I know it’s largely illogical but hard not to have some glimmer of hope.) I can only imagine how confused and upset her poor babies must be, let alone all of her family and friends who love her so much.

I’m not local but a couple screenshots off of google maps of the area around 43, taken from 3 points along that road. Looks rural and difficult to search to me…

still praying for a miracle for Maddi

I’m not local, but have driven that route a few times. It’s hilly and slow driving; lots of winding roads through heavily wooded areas in some parts and open farmland in other parts. Rushford is a small community (maybe 2,000 population?) at the bottom of the Root River valley. You don’t get out of the winding roads until south of Bratsberg. Population is sparse outside of the names towns - individual farmsteads and rural homes with Amish communities to the west of the circled area (Harmony/Canton/Henrystown).

This is a great explanation. I don't live in Winona or in the area circled, but I'm in the same part of the state and have visited and traveled that entire area thousands of times.

Most people who live in the country notice odd activity, know who's coming and going and everyone looks out for their neighbor. When you live rural your neighbor might live a mile or more away, but they usually know who's coming or going.

Houston County Sheriff’s office has posted an more specific area for search/reviewing video footage:

“the Winona Police Department and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office have requested assistance from residents and landowners located in the southern portion of Money Creek Township, Yucatan Township, and Black Hammer Township in Houston county. We are asking residents in this area to check their properties, including any video cameras, doorbell cameras, game cameras etc. for a dark colored Chrysler Town and Country van, signs of a disturbance, or any other suspicious activity. The timeframe in question would be from approximately 8am on 3/31 through 4pm on 4/1/23.”

Kingsbury’s van is described in the media release as a 2014 dark blue Chrysler Town and Country.

''The media release from the Winona Police Department states, " Recent developments led investigators to believe a van matching the description of Kingsbury’s was seen traveling from Winona to the eastern part of Filmore County Sheriff’s Office are asking residents and landowners in eastern Filmore County to check their properties, including any video cameras, doorbell cameras, game cameras, etc. for any signs of the van passing through or stopping. In addition, we asked residents/ landowners to check for signs of a disturbance or other suspicious activity. We are specifically looking for information during the timeframe of 8:00 a.m. on March 31 to 4:00 p.m. on April 1, along the Highway 43 corridor of Winona and Filmore Counties. If you have an information, please contact the Winona Police Department at 507-457-6288.”

Any individuals or groups can utilize the Fillmore County public GIS property search map by visiting HERE.

The department asked that if you have searched a particular area, please email the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office at search@co.fillmore.mn.usand describe the specific area and method that you used to search.

Wow, that's the first time I've ever seen that type of coordination between the public and LE in a search. Using the GIS system to aid in mapping, fantastic idea. But on the flip side, the pessimist in me sees potential pitfalls.

Wow, when I first saw that post I thought it was merely a resource to see the areas they wanted people to look. The idea that they would trust people to have done a thorough search on their own is surprising. But, maybe I’m being a pessimist too! Either way, it is certainly more people looking for her which is obviously a good thing.

I worry LE is relying on the MN Nice mentality... Don't get me wrong, I'm a life-long MN'er & the niceties can be so genuine. BUT... when it comes to this kind of thing I'm also taken a back by LE's trust. There's too many ways this could be manipulated... OR... maybe that's the point of LE posting this? Using it to find info? We can only hope. I am growing weary about Maddi's safe return. I can only imagine how her family feels.
