The fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager Saturday by a police officer in a St. Louis suburb came after a struggle for the officer’s gun, police officials said Sunday, in an explanation that met with outrage and skepticism in the largely African-American community. The killing of the youth, Michael Brown, 18, ignited protests on Saturday and Sunday in Ferguson, Mo., a working-class suburb of about 20,000 residents. Hundreds of people gathered at the scene of the shooting to question the police and to light candles for Mr. Brown, who was planning to begin college classes on Monday.
Mr. Brown’s stepfather, Louis Head, held a cardboard sign that said, “Ferguson police just executed my unarmed son.”

    A couple of things:

    1) We are not going to allow links to blogs in this case without prior approval. And approvals will be tough to get.

    2) Posts directed at other posters rather than the case will earn a TO without explanation. If you have a problem with another member, use the alert feature and scroll on by OR use the ignore feature and keep it to yourself

Concealed weapon permits are very hard to obtain. I doubt many of the protestors would qualify for one. It is a lengthy process which is heavy on background checks and accountability.

    eta:

All applicants applying for an Missouri Concealed Weapon Permit must:
Be at least 21 years old. Members of the armed forces stationed in Missouri must be at least 18 years old. Their spouses must be at least 21 years old.
Resident of Missouri. Non-resident permits are issued to members of the armed forces stationed in Missouri and their spouses.
Be a citizen of the United States
has not been convicted, or pled guilty or nolo contendre to any felony
    have no weapons-related misdemeanor conviction
have not been convicted within the past five years of a violent misdemeanor or have not been convicted of two or more misdemeanors involving DWI or possession or abuse of a controlled substance within the past five years
    not be a fugative

I'd also like to point out that some LE can be real jerks while not being racist. Their jerkiness applies to all.

Just saw the video of the workers at the scene..

I have to tell you I am completely standing on this fence. I want to believe that LE does the right thing all the time but I really have questions about this .

Here is the screenshot from one of the videos that shows the brass in the street. The brass is located to the rear of MBs feet.

Since it is behind MB, this could show that OW was backing up when MB came towards him.

I'm not convinced it was the worker who said he had his hands up. Seems like it coming from off to the left to me.

    For those keeping count:

“Michael Brown Jr. had his hands in the air, which is a sign of surrender, and was shot from this position,” Gray said, holding his hands in the air. “We have upwards of six witnesses saying that, which distinguishes this case from any other case – and is why you have interest from around the globe.”

“Police sources tell me more than a dozen witnesses have corroborated cop’s version of events in shooting,” St. Louis Post-Dispatch crime reporter Christine Byers tweeted

Father: he has been taught to understand and do the proper thing that he was told by a police officer

Michael Brown Sr. says he told his son repeatedly to treat police with respect.
    http://www.cbsnews.com/news/michael-brown-parents-reflect-on-their-loss/

“I let him know like, if the police ever get on you, I don’t care what you doing, give it up,” Mr. Ewing said. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/25/u...eeks-grappling-with-lifes-mysteries.html?_r=1

There were times when her son would talk back, Ms. McSpadden said. She relied on family and friends, including a retired juvenile officer, to help mentor her son.
    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/25/u...eeks-grappling-with-lifes-mysteries.html?_r=1

So, Michael knew better. He could've attacked the officer because he was on probation, or had a deferred adjudication or sentence, or a pending charge and a new arrest would've blown it up. That retired juvenile officer probably warned him before that charges as an adult are much more serious. (Speaking of, wonder who that juvie officer is, how Leslie came to know him/her, & what he/she might have to say now.) Michael's thought could have been "I CAN'T get arrested". He likely didn't expect the store to call the police.

The workers said that and are showing hands up.. They were also interviewed and wanted to remain anonymous..

They are clearing saying he was hands up.. And the cop is just arriving and putting up crime scene tape..

Personally, I don't care if Brown said, "I give up" while having his hands in the air.

As long as he kept advancing....
I don't care if he : skipped, hokey pokeyed, bum rushed, walking swiftly, sashayed, strolled, or lollygagged....he remained a threat to officer Wilson.

Michael likely did not expect the store to call the police.

The convenience store where the robbery took place was boarded up, but open for business on Friday. A store manager, who declined to give his name, said he fears for his life and pleaded with reporters not to suggest that he called police.

“It’s very dangerous,” he said. “They kill us if they think we are responsible. People don’t understand that.”

Per this video, it looks like it was common knowledge that shop owners don't call LE. See approx :30-2:00. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8BG-B50xHo
(Iirc, orig video (which I can't find right now) was posted shortly after shooting and this guy has some information many didn't know yet. Much of his information is also wrong though. Just including it to show it appears some in the neighborhood just expect crimes won't be reported. Plus:

“Snitches Get Stitches” message spray painted on burned-out QuikTrip
    http://fox2now.com/2014/08/11/quikt...-fire-during-overnight-looting-near-ferguson/

It appears the word on the street (in fact, I think it's in one of Piaget's first interviews) was that Michael's strong arm robbery occurred at QT, thus why it was burned down, IMO.
